BS Fire Emblem: Akaneia Senki (BS ファイアーエムブレム アカネイア戦記 BS Faiā Emuburemu Akaneia Senki?, (lit. BS Fire Emblem: Record of Akaneia Wars)) is a set of four short Fire Emblem games that were first broadcast in 1997 for the Satellaview attachment for the Super Famicom and could be downloaded. Each game contained one map and was based on Fire Emblem: Monshō no Nazo's engine. The games took place in Akaneia, chronologically before the events of Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryū to Hikari no Ken, with some characters form Monshō no Nazo making some appearances.

[edit] Story

[edit] Part 1: Palace Kanraku

(パレス陥落) Translated as Fall of the Palace. The Durhua Empire has taken over Akaneia palace. The player takes command of Akaneia's Princess Niena, who attempts to flee the palace.

[edit] Part 2: Akai Ryū Kishi

(赤い竜騎士) Translated as The Red Dragon Knight. Macedonia's Princess Minerva and Orleans' Prince Hardin team up to stop the Macedonian deserters' attack on Orleans. Minvera and Hardin both act as main characters.

[edit] Part 3: Seigi no Tōzokudan

(正義の盗賊団) Translated as Thieves' Gang of Justice. Days after the fall of Akaneia palace, a group of thieves sneak into the palace to raid the palace's treasures. The player takes command of the thief, Ricardo.

[edit] Part 4: Hajimari no Toki

(始まりのとき) Translated roughly as The Time of Beginning. Two years after Akaneia's fall, Princess Niena is protected by Grunia's General Camus and his loyal Black Knights. Durhua's King Mediuth wishes to see Niena dead, but Camus is determined to protect her and decides to transport her away to the safety of Orleans. Niena and Camus both act as main characters.

[edit] Gameplay

The gameplay is identical to Fire Emblem: Monshō no Nazo, though there are no battle animations, only map animations. There is limited displayed dialogue and, like the majority of Satellaview games, most of it was streamed and voice-acted.

Despite consisting of only one map, each game is actually very hard, since the player usually has to rely on a small team and must confront large and/or powerful hordes of enemies, and each map has a 3 hour time limit (as each chapter was broadcast from 16:00 to 19:00). If any main character is defeated, the player must start the map from scratch with the countdown time remaining the same. Defeating all enemies doesn't give any endings; the game will continue until the time runs out. Instead, the main point of the games is to gain points, which are awarded by defeating enemies, visiting villages, opening chests, and so on.

[edit] Broadcast and availability

Initially released from September to October, in 1997, it was later rebroadcast in December, 1997 and finally in April, 1999. Since the Satellaview service was discontinued, there is no way to play the games in its intended form, unless they were downloaded, though it is very hard to find a Memory Pak with them, and even though, some of the voice acting would be missing, as it was streamed.
