I wanted to broach this subject here. The US Navy has recently judged that AIP should be referred to Air Independent Power, since as in Nuclear boats, the AIP system is a power source and electric motors drive the actual propulsion. In addition, they have officially declared that the hull classification symbol for AIP submarines is now SSP. One, you need a source to back up what you say - without it, it's Original research, and we can't use that. Two, articles are generally titled by the most common term, which right now is "Air-independent propulsion". In a few years, "Air-independent power" might become the accepted term, but until then, the current name is fine. With proper sources, there should be no problem adding "power" to the Lead sentence, with a cited explanation, possibly as a footnote, of the USN's current usage. THree, if you still want to change the article's name now, just propose a move. If you gain a consensus to move it, it'll be moved properly to keep the article history intact. Fourth, the correct new title would be "Air-independent power" (no second-/third-word caps), as it is a term, not a formal name/title. Hope that helps. - BillCJ 17:04, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
