Airlie Gardens

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Airlie Gardens (67 acres) are public gardens located at 300 Airlie Road, Wilmington, North Carolina. They are open Tuesday through Sunday; an admission fee is charged.

The gardens were created in the early 1900s as a private garden for the Pembroke Jones family, and planted with thousands of azaleas, camellias, magnolias, and wisteria. In 1999 it was purchased for the public by New Hanover County.

Minnie Evans served as the gardens' gatekeeper for a number of years.
