Airburst round

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An airburst round is a shell that detonates in midair, causing shrapnel damage to an enemy. This makes it easier to hit enemy soldiers behind a wall, in a foxhole, or in a confined space or room. It is used on many guns including the XM-29 assault rifle, and on these guns is a 20mm round and similar to a smart grenade. Although useful in many situations, it is not as effective as a hand or launcher grenade and its fragments are not as dangerous - however, it is still an effective weapon.
