Air Atlantic

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Air Atlantic was a Canadian airline that was a regional carrier for Canadian Airlines International (CP). In October 1998, they stopped flying for Canadian Airlines International, and were replaced by Inter-Canadien.

[edit] History

Air Atlantic was founded in St. Johns, Newfoundland and began operations with de Havilland Canada DHC-7 aircraft. Those were replaced with the DHC-8 in 1986. The small airline had a partnership with CP Air and later with Canadian Airlines. Air Atlantic received its first jet aircraft in 1990 in the form of the BAe 146 and began routes to the United States. By late 1990 Air Atlantic was having financial difficulties and Canadian Airlines bought a significant share of the airline. To streamline the fleet, the DHC-8s were replaced with BAe Jetstream 41 aircraft, but that was not enough to save the airline and it went out of business in October 1998.
