AirAsia Lanka

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

AirAsia Lanka is a start-up low-cost airline based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It will initially operate from Colombo to southern India using leased Airbus A320 aircraft[1].

[edit] History

The airline started operations on 10 March 2007 and plans to expand its network to include Malé, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore. HolidayAir changed its name to airSOUTHAsia in November 2006 and plans to sell a 49% stake to AirAsia of Malaysia and change its name to AirAsia Lanka[1].

The airline is presently 100% owned by Sri Lankan interests, but it plans to use AirAsia's expertise, booking engine and pilot training facilities, with an option for AirAsia to acquire a stake at a later stage.
