AIK Hockey (often referred as just AIK) is a Swedish ice hockey club based in Solna, just north of Stockholm. AIK was founded in Stockholm in 1891, and the hockey department was formed in 1921. The club relocated to Solna in 1937, but the ice hockey team always plays their matches in Stockholm, mainly at Hovet, but the more popular games are usually played at Globen, which has a larger capacity of 14,119. AIK are currently playing in HockeyAllsvenskan, the second highest league in Sweden.

[edit] History
AIK is an abbreviation for "Allmänna Idrottsklubben", which in direct translation means "The general sports club". The name was chosen to indicate that the club was open for everyone and also that one of the main events was to be athletics, at that time called "allmän idrott" in Swedish.
AIK have played sixty-six season in the highest league during the team's 86 year long existence. They have won the Swedish championship seven times (1934, 1935, 1938, 1946, 1947, 1982, 1984) and been runner-up six other times (1930, 1936, 1940, 1968, 1978, 1981).
