AIDA is the International Association for Development of Apnea.

Apnea in this case is known as freediving

AIDA is primarily the rule and record keeping body for competitive breath holding events.

It aims to set standards for safety and comparability of record attempts

AIDA International is the parent organization for national clubs of the same name

  • November 2, 1992: Roland SPECKER, France, founded International Association for the Development of Apnea, and become the first President.
  • October 1996: First AIDA World Championship competition in Cannes, France
  • 1997 National clubs form
  • 1999 Sébastien NAGEL, Switzerland, replace Roland SPECKER as the President
  • 2005 Bill STRÖMBRG, Sweden, replace Sébastien NAGEL as the President
