AIDA (.hack)

Artificially Intelligent Data Anomaly, shortened to AIDA, is a fictional artificial intelligence in the .hack//G.U. franchise.
It is described as a bug or virus that defies all system parameters in "The World", a fictional MMORPG video game. In the .hack//G.U. video game series for the PlayStation 2, AIDA is the main problem afflicting players in The World. AIDA attacks and "consumes" players, eventually leading them to the point of insanity. The only ones able to fight and resist the AIDAs are the eight Epitaph Users, special players with unique abilities to alter data by using Avatars.
AIDA comes in many different forms and variations of power. The reason behind AIDAs creation are still under discussion, but it is supposed that AIDA could have been created because the Disappearance of Aura from The World and the internet itself.
In .hack//G.U. Vol.1//Rebirth, the main character, Haseo, encounters AIDA for the first time while visiting a strange new area. AIDA's true form can only be seen by the Epitaph Users, therefore, Haseo saw the AIDA. He is saved by Kuhn, another Epitaph User. Haseo awakens his avatar later and begins his battle against AIDA and the AIDA-infected PK known as "Tri-Edge". Afterwards in .hack//G.U. Vol.2//Reminisce AIDA become more violent by infecting other players and killing senselessly. Due to the effects of AIDA, players killed by AIDA in The World become comatose in the real world. Also, players that are killed by an AIDA-infected player are also placed into comas. A suggestion was made to shut down The World. Unfortunately, due to the nature of AIDA, if that were to happen, AIDA would infect something else, that could prove to be more deadly.
