Hi Ahostett.
Welcome to Wikipedia. Just a quick note about the Havelock (which, as a native Grimbarian, is always how I've spelt the word, although I bow to your knowledge there). I freely acknowledge that the other page about Havelok was much more complete and already existed when I created the 'Lay' page. Indeed I have just completed merge the two articles! However, could I please point out a couple of points of etiquette. Firstly, never just delete a page and leave it blank. If you think another page does a better job, then please use a redirect link to point the user in the correct direction. Secondly, rather than just deleting the page outright, it is better to post a tag proposing a merge with the other page. And finally, whatever you do, it is always polite to try and complete the edit summary box and write in the discussion page about what your doing.
Again, I'm really not trying to raise any hackles! I'm just trying to help you avoid raising other people's in future. Cheers! --Byron Farrow 04:00, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thank you, sir
Yes, I am a bit fuzzy on the netiquette in these parts -- thank you for the tips and comments. And thank you for the kind instruction.
The name hardly has a standard spelling at the time. "Havelock" would be the way we would spell in modern English. "Havelok" is how it is spelt in the manuscript (though even there its spelled numerous different ways).
I have a question for you, sir. Have you seen the Grim stone? I have just seen some photos, but will try to make a pass through Grimsby on my next research trip.
Best, Aaron
[edit] No Problem
I'm still really a newbie here myself, feeling my way around! Now ... the Grim stone. According to this site (http://www.show.me.uk/site/news/STO462.html) from 2004 there is a Havelok stone in the grounds of the Welhome galleries in Grimsby, but it says that the Grim Stone is lost! There is a photograph of something called the Grim stone on that page and it also mentioned here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nigel.portas/). I'll do some more digging!
Although I was born and raised in Grimsby I must admit that I haven't lived there in 14 years, and I haven't even lived in the UK for 7 years! However I'm back to visit the parents in less than two weeks and I'll be taking a trip to the Welholme galleries and the public library whilst I'm there. Sadly (from a Wikipedia point of view) I'm then off to live in China for a while, where there be no wicked wikipedia!
