Notability of Andrew Paul Hoskinson II

A tag has been placed on Andrew Paul Hoskinson II, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Atomic1609 16:47, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Andrew Paul Hoskinson

The article you created at Andrew Paul Hoskinson was eligible for deletion without further discussion under criterion A7 in the criteria for speedy deletion as an article about a real person that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject. Since it appears to be about you I've moved it to your user space instead, which was probably what you intended in the first place (a common mistake among newcomers!).

If you really did mean to create an article about yourself please be aware that this is often considered a bad idea, even if you do meet the guidelines for inclusion of biographies.

I know Wikipedia can be confusing for new editors, so you are welcome to ask for help at the help desk or on my talk page. Hersfold (talk|work) 23:16, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Cali Carlin. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://www.channelone.com/onair/cali/ in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Cali Carlin with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:Cali Carlin with a link to the details.

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. After you do so, you should place a {{hangon}} tag on the article page and leave a note at Talk:Cali Carlin saying you have done so. An administrator will review the new content before taking action.

It is also important that all Wikipedia articles have an encyclopedic tone and follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Slp1 23:32, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Andrew, It is really, really important that you don't put your email addresses on the internet. It isn't safe for a 12 year old (happy birthday by the way). I have asked for some help so that people won't be able to know your email address anymore, and strongly suggest you don't post them again. Maybe you should talk to your parents about these things?? By the way, you created an Article with what I guess is your name. You could change your username if you want that. You could redirect this user there, no problem, but you can't have a userpage in the encyclopaedia itself. Welcome !!!Slp1 00:00, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Bk01cov.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

[edit] username

I saw you moved your user talk page to the main talk namespace. I think what you may be after instead is a username change? Of course, your account is relatively new, so it may be easier and faster for you to just create a new account under the name/initials you want. Either way, you may want to read up on namespaces to see why the particular changes you wanted are not allowed. Cheers! -- nae'blis 12:53, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The images you've been uploading

Hi, while we appreciate your efforts to improve the encyclopaedia, Wikipedia has a very strict policy regarding the images that we can use. We have a very strong preference for free images, by which we mean images that can be freely copied, modified, and reused, even commercially. If an image is not free in that sense, even if the copyright holder has given permission for it to be copied (but not modified or used commercially), or if the copyright holder has given permission to Wikipedia to use it, we can't accept it except under very, very limited conditions, because anything which cannot be freely reused by others interferes with our mission of creating a free, reusable encyclopaedia. So, for example, we don't accept non-free images if they are images for which it would be possible to obtain a free substitute. That means that we don't generally accept images of living people, as it would be possible for someone to take a photo and release it under a free licence.

Could I ask you please not to upload any more images that you find on the internet unless you are quite, quite sure that they have been released under a free licence that allows reproduction, modification, and commercial use. Otherwise, you're just creating extra work for people who have to remove the images from articles and delete them, in order to follow Wikipedia policy. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer, to the best of my ability. Cheers. ElinorD (talk) 21:59, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Another plea to stop uploading non-free images

Hi, I notice you uploaded another seemingly unfree image half an hour after I asked you to stop. Believe me, it's not going to work. Unfree images of living people, or other unfree images that could reasonably be replaced by a free version are simply going to be removed from articles and deleted. All you're doing is giving more trouble to people involved in image cleanup — but they'll continue their work regardless of the trouble. As I said above, I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. Cheers. ElinorD (talk) 00:36, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Gofpromo-fleur01.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:9219104 det.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. The article has a free image. If you are trying to add a copyrighted image, please be advised that it is against Wikipedia policy to add copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. If you don't have another free image, leave the article alone. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. Non-free images of a living person do not fall under the category of fair use. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
