[edit] Thanks!
I'm usually quite good in catching up things but Wikipedia overwhelmed me with it's sheer size. I've got most of the technical stuff but am still baffled about how to find out about new things that happen (like a new Wikipedian arrives in town :-) ).

- It takes everybody a while to find their way around. When you think you've got most of the technical stuff you're probably ready to begin discovering new layers of detail. :) There are multiple ways to watch for events, but the main one is your Watchlist. The link for that should be at the top right of the page. You can mark pages by clicking "Watch" in the links above the page. When you go to your watchlist, you will see a list of recent changes to all the pages you are watching. Serious Wikipedians often have large lists, and check them regularly, to keep an eye on the pages they are familiar with. This allows them both to watch for vandalism, bad edits, errors, etc., and also to help out when new material is added, such as cleaning up a new contribution and merging it into the existing text. With a large watchlist, one tends to also catch new trends or events eventually, such as an editor reorganizing articles in your favorite subject area, or just a new editor in that field.
- I watch a lot of optics articles. I noticed your edits to curved mirror and spherical mirror and thought I would say hello and leave you some helpful links. The welcome message is actually a template: {{welcomenh}}. There are several other variants.--Srleffler 22:15, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
