Ahmad Karimi-Hakkak

Ahmad Karimi-Hakkak is a Persian literary figure and Iranist.
Ahmad Karimi Hakkak was Professor of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Washington for nineteen years. He is currently a professor and founding director of the Center for Persian Studies in the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Maryland. He is the author of numerous essays and scholarly books. Professor Karimi-Hakkak is the author of nineteen books and over one hundred major scholarly articles. He has contributed articles on Iran and Persian literature to many reference works, including The Encyclopedia Britannica, The Encyclopaedia Iranica, and The Encyclopedia of Translation Studies. His works have been translated into French, Dutch, Spanish, Russian, Greek, Arabic, Japanese, and Persian. He has won numerous awards and honors, and has served as President of the International Society for Iranian Studies and several other professional academic organizations.
In recognition of Ahmad Karimi-Hakkak's outstanding contributions to Iranology, he was chosen as the recipient of the most prestigious honor in that field, the Yarshater lectureship, for the year 2003.
