[edit] Notice: This article lacks WP:A to establish WP:BIO

In my opinion, this article either lacks sufficient Attribution that it satisfies the Notability criteria for Biographies, or it may violate the Conflict of interest guideline, or perhaps it is a Copyright violation.

Wikipedia articles must be based on reliable sources to verify any claims of notability. Even though the lack of reliable source attribution in an article is not grounds for deletion in itself, an article with absolutely no sources (or only external links to unreliable ones) suggests to some editors that multiple reliable sources may not, in fact, exist.

Although I am considering tagging this article for deletion according to the Deletion policy, I am nonetheless willing to assist User:ArleArt (talk · contribs), and other recent contributors to this article, to make constructive improvements to it ... I do not have time to examine this article in depth at the moment, and it may improve over time, in which case this warning was premature.

Please respond on this Discussion page, instead of on my Talk page, in order to avoid fragmenting the conversation. —72.75.72.63 (talk) 06:43, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

  • I object to this and all the articles that have been tagged under Cuban Contenpoary Artists. Yes while agree that mosr do not have references. All are listed in the Spanish Wikipedia. All are notable and given time and alot of work all can be found references, mostly in Cuban publications.. All most all of these persons have their works in national museums in their permanent collections and that in itself would make them notable.Callelinea (talk) 20:53, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
    • Note that most are in the Spanish Wikipedia simply because the were created by the same WP:SPA editor, and that they have been removing the same WP:LINKSPAM from the articles ... these are direct translations from the Spanish articles, and many of them have been deleted for failing the WP:BIO criteria due to lack of WP:RS secondary coverage ... existence in another Wiki is not de facto notability, because Wikipedia, by definition, is not a WP:RS. —72.75.72.63 (talk) 21:44, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
Then I feel these articles should be AFd's instead and let others decide if these persons are notable. Most of these persons have been written up in Granma the official paper of Cuba but I have been unable to locate any site that keeps tabs on articles in the Granma newspaper.Callelinea (talk) 22:08, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
References do not have to be on the Web ... use a {{cite news}} for a printed article (even in Spanish) ... the important issue is Verifiability. —72.75.72.63 (talk) 00:39, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] "References"

I have changed the References section to External links, because that's all they are ... they are not reliable source citations that demonstrate "significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject" (WP:BIO) ... nonetheless, I have replaced the URLs provided by Some Other Editor with {{cite web}} tags.

[edit] Notability

I think by reading the article and reading the references and the links more than proves that this artist is notable. He has one awards in Cuba, Japan and France.. How many American artists can claim that? Callelinea (talk) 02:15, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bad URL

I don't know what country you are editing from, but http://www.granma.cu/ cannot be accessed for Washington, D.C. using either Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer ... the purpose of the |accessdate= field in the {{cite web}} and other templates is to demonstrate that the URL was valid as of a certain date, in case it should evaporate in the future, and I cannot add such a date if I cannot access the site ... I would appreciate it if Some Other Editor would confirm either access or denial from this URL. —72.75.72.63 (talk · contribs) 05:36, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

I have no problem accessing the URL from Miami using Windows Internet Explorer.Callelinea (talk) 06:02, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
<Heavy sigh!> ... the NSA or DHS has probably asked all ISPs in the DC area to block Cuban domains as an aid to preventing cyber-terrorism of government computers. —72.75.72.63 (talk) 06:19, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup needed

Please see the Cuban artists checklist and update it with any changes that you make to this article ... Happy Editing! —72.75.72.63 (talk · contribs) 05:17, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Requested move

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was move. JPG-GR (talk) 00:28, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

To Agustín Cárdenas. A much less detailed stub used to live there, and this more detailed article was accidentally created independently. This sculptor is most commonly known as Agustín Cárdenas, so per WP:NC(CN), that should be the article title. Jfire (talk) 05:10, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Support This is what the external links use, including the one in Spanish. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 16:14, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Support I created the original Agustín Cárdenas page and agree with the proposal to use that name for this more detailed page. StN (talk) 22:30, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Oppose any move as long as this article remains missorted in its categories. Fix the sort key, because the name to be moved to would suffer from the same problem. Gene Nygaard (talk) 10:26, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Uh... I guess you mean that the sort key should not use diacritics? Done. Jfire (talk) 15:14, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
