Aguleri is a predominantly Catholic community in Nigeria

Villages: - Ivite, Igboezunu, Eziagulu, Enugu, :- homeland (Enuobodo),Ivite-otu,Igboezunu-otu,Eziagulu-otu & Enugu-otu:- riverine or Aguleri-otu - Located on the banks of river Omambala, - Igala towns (Kogi state) to the north, Nteje town to the south, Nando & Omor towns to the east & Umuleri and Nsugbe towns to the west.

Administration: Traditional rulership: - Hereditary – monarchy. The Idigo dynasty – Igwe Christopher Nwabunwanne Idigo IV (Ogalagidi).

The Igwe and Ndi Ichie adjudicate over local cases in the palace inner chamber called ISABANKA. The cabinet chiefs play advisory role. The Igwe disseminates information via the Ikolo (large wooden gong) and the town crier The Ikolo is over a hundred years old and is heard more than seven kilometers away. - There are four market days: - Oye, Afor, Nkwo, Eke. Eke is the Aguleri biggest market day and it takes place every fourth day. The Aguleri soil is very fertile and farmers cultivate different kinds of food crops both for commercial and self subsistence. Aguleri is known as the food basket of Anambra State. Festival: Ovala festival and new yam festival (Alo mmo) Ovala festival is a royal festival celebrated on the first Eke market day of the year. It attracts dignitaries from all works of life. Neighboring village heads also come to pay homage to the Igwe of Aguleri on this day. Alo mmo is a cultural festival. Prominent Aguleri indigenes:-

  • Engr. Marcel Manafa, first GM, ECN now PHCN.
  • Chinwiba Onumba, First certified tradomedical doctor.
  • Justice Raphael Chinwuba, Rep. Anambra state house of Assembly.
  • Igwe Raphael Idigo II (1910 – 1960), demarcation of Idah- Onitsha boundary.
  • Chief Chuma Ivenso, former group personnel manager ACB.
  • Chief Willie Obiano, Executive Director Fidelity Bank.
