Aguata is a Local Government Area in Anambra state in Nigeria with its headquarters in the city of Ekwulobia. Slogan: The Orient Colossus.
Aguata is home to some of Nigeria's greatest statesmen and academicians, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife (Elder statesman and Governor), Dr Andy Uba (Domestic Adviser to the President and Governor). Aguata hosts the great Federal Polytechnic Oko.
Ekwulobia the largest city in Aguata is expanding rapidly to a population of about five-hundred thousand. Several new agro based factories established around Ekwulobia city have attracted workers into the city.
Aguata is also an exciting tourist and archeological place. Several exciting archeological and cultural discoveries have been made about the ancient Igbo kingdom around the town of Igboukwu in Aguata.
Aguata LGA is also blessed with pure natural spring water, like the Famous Obizi Spring Water in Umuoru Village, Uga.
Other towns in Aguata are Uga, Akpo, Achina, Isuofia, Umuchu, Agulueze-chukwu, Ezinifite, Ikenga, Amesi, Oraeri, Umuona, Nkpologwu.
The history of Akpo can be tied to the gentleman called Akpo. Akpo gave birth to six sons. Their names being, Agbelu, uhuala, ogbo, ama'ife, umueze,and udo. These sons are what make up the six villages in Akpo town. Just like their father, they also built for themselves generations. Ogbo being one of the prominent sons of Akpo built an unbreakable generation in Akpo. One of the most prominent families in Ogbo is that of Elemmadu. A man who gave birth to six sons, namely Ezeanyiwara,Egboka, Uzoma, Uche, Igwe, and Emusi. These men brought out the prominence of this family. For example, Igwe gave birth to the elite Stephen Igwe and felix Igwe. Stephen Igwe built for himself a powerful family with the help of Mother sussana ihejionu igwe that have increased the prominence of the family of Elemmadu. His children being Nze Chukwuma Sunday Igwe(Ikenna 1 of Akpo, ezinwa of Ogbo,), Edna Ezeonwuka, Mercy Eberechukwu Ngerem, Izuchukwu Igwe, Peter Osondu Igwe and Ikechukwu Isaac Igwe. Nze felix Igwe and the other sons also built for themselves a powerful family. Prominent names like samuel Eze(omemgbeoji 1 of Akpo), Chief Emeka Igwe (ezeudogadi 1 of Akpo), Chief Bonifce Igwe(eze okpokuka 1 of Akpo), C.y Igwe, Augustine Uche, Sunday Egboka, Isaac Emusi, Geofrey Igwe, Benson Igwe,Mallam Egboka, benson Uzoma Nnaeto Igwe, chukwunonso Egboka and so on should not be forgotten. In fact,a member of this family has been ordained an Anglican priest. These men also built for themselves a generation. With the help of Mrs Chinelo Kate Igwe (nee Ezeanyika, the second daughter of Idemili local government's Elite Ichie ota 1 of Alor, one of the most prominent men ever to come out of idemili south local govt), chuma Igwe built for himself a solid family, producing prominent children, Ezije chiemenam Igwe ( a barrister), Uzochukwu Uchenna Okoye (a fashion designer), Onyinye Onyeka Igwe (an accountant, and magazine publisher),Chukwudumije Elochukwu Igwe, and Ifunanya Anulika Igwe. Other members built solid families as well. Elemmadu has left a legacy which has been maintained by his children. The continuation of this legacy is the hands of the generation built by his Great grand children. Akpo is a joyful place to visit during the yuletide season with festivals such as the masquerade festival,also Akpo town plays host to the fineest cuisines, such as (anu nchi, isi ewu, nkwobi, azu ndu, akara, and so on). Furthermore, Akpo town boasts of the finest weather during this period, having cool mornings, warm afternoons, and cooler nights. This town has a lot of streams and springs. Akpo also plays host to fireworks during this period. Akpo also boasts of the most interesting nightlife in the yuletide period. Akpo is a town renowned for her professionals and academicians. The first Geologist and professor in Aguata and the vice-chancellor of a University, Prof. Stephen Orajaka is from Akpo.
