Agni Nakshatram (Fire Star) (in reference to the hottest part of May in South India) (1988) is a Tamil feature film directed by Mani Ratnam. The movie is about two half-brothers who come into conflict with each other in their claim for legitimacy as sons of a common father. The cast includes Prabhu Ganesan and Karthik. The movie's popular score and soundtrack are composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The film met with critical acclaim and commercial success upon release. The movie is regarded as a landmark in Indian cinematography with trend-setting lighting work by P. C. Sriram.
