I have ported over the first section of the WG "Dealing with disputes" page, here to the EN wiki, at Wikipedia:New admin school/Dispute resolution. If you have a chance, could you please take a look before I make it more public? Thanks, --Elonka 16:12, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Question
Warnings like this are fine and dandy [1]. See no problem with that, but may I ask what do you suggest to do in cases like National Rebirth of Poland? I'll cite your warning "discuss your differences with the other parties. Sometimes, that is all it takes: leave a message on their talk page, and come to an agreement civilly and peacefully". It may work in ideal world, but in cases like this, when traffic of outside editors is low and stuff like "Jewish lies", "lies about false numbers of Holocaust" stays on mainspace not for minutes and hours, but for days and even weeks, I don't think it has any chance. I can write on talk page for hours, days, or months, I can cite WP:policies, present my sources, but still I can bet, I'll be reverted no matter what. Revert warring is bad, but there are worse things than this, extremist propaganda on main space for instance. M0RD00R (talk) 20:31, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- My warning is a standard one, that I use for all edit warring cautions: it is not always suitable. Perhaps in this case it isn't. That's not, however, to say it's irrelevant. In particular, the following points are essential:
- Civility: remain civil, no matter how angry you get, and how often you're reverted, you need to refrain from making personal attacks. Trust me, it never gets you anywhere. In fact, it's going to worsen how you look when an uninvolved administrator finally wanders over: if you've been trying your best, and finally lose your cool, and I wander along a few hours after you do, all I see is you being incivil (along with the others, of course), and you get slapped with the warning as well. It's a crude process, and incivility doesn't do you any favours :)
- Dispute resolution: it's essential that, if the standard course of action of inter-editor discussion does not work, as it clearly hasn't here, the steps of the dispute resolution process are undertaken. You mention that there is very little through-traffic on the article and article talk pages on which this dispute takes place. Perhaps third opinion or requests for comment would be a good medium of DR to undertake. Failing that, I'd suggest mediation as a good way to go: informal mediation is generally were one starts.
- People not listening to you/your comments not making a difference: perhaps, once more people get involved, and you take the dispute through the dispute resolution process, your good points and structured arguments will be taken into account. From my experience, the people take the time to present a good argument (as you have) ultimately get on the best, primarily because their contributions almost always are of a higher standard, and are more beneficial to the project, than those that storm around and edit war. Hang in there, I suppose, is my advice.
- I trust this goes a little way to answering your query? Anthøny 21:50, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia talk:Requests for arbitration/Footnoted quotes
Hi - I'm in the process of submitting my evidence for this case, and I went to the talk page to get the content from my original comment. The statement at the top says that statements and comments from uninvolved users are on that page. The problem is that the first statement on that page, from 'Norton', is from User:Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ), who is a party to the case. Right below it is a response from User:RedSpruce, who originated the request.
I don't want to edit an ArbCom page like that, so I thought I'd bring it to your attention. I'm on the opposite side of this issue from Norton, but he's a party and deserves to have his statement on the front page. Thanks. :-) KrakatoaKatie 00:40, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Rollback
Hi. I just wanted to comment your comment to my request for rollback. You used this two examples: [2], [3]. In number 1 just reverted a bad faith edit. The user deleted a MySpace source unreasonably. The number two example was not my opinion. It was based on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Musicians/Article guidelines#Discography section. I would like to know what am I doing wrong so that I can correct it.
[edit] Request to participate in mediation on Hogenakkal Falls
Hello AGK, Wish you very happy Admn's birth day. Please note I will not participate in immaturely initiated mediation. There are many new developments in the article's discussions after mediation request was filed and intense discussions are still going on among Sr editors including an Admn. The filing editor yet to satisfactorily answer the new observation made by a sr editor. Also as of late to day, it appears a consensus is being almost feasible due to involvement of the new sr editor. Since I am kind of still a novice editor hope I have made correct decision. Please correct me if I am wrong in any of my observations. Thanks for your time. Naadapriya (talk) 03:02, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Arb evidence
Anthony, did you get my message? You archived the talk page not long after I posted and I didn't see a response. John Smith's (talk) 17:27, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- Good day, John. I did indeed receive your message, but I have as yet not had the opportunity to handle your enquiry. Please see my message in the above green box for further information. I will get to your original message as soon as possible. Apologies for the inconvenience, Anthøny 07:52, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- That's fine - I understand you're busy. I was only worried because you archived the message first. Thanks for clearing that up. John Smith's (talk) 12:45, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Coaching
Can you coach me?--Ro098 (talk) 00:23, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- I am afraid I cannot take on any coachees at the present time. As you can see from the green box above, I'm currently away from Wikipedia for the most part, due to real life busyness, and am only handling my "core duties". Therefore, I will have to decline your request at the present time.
- However, I would encourage you to keep working hard, and do some reading up on administrators and their operations ("what they do"). Furthermore, I would also encourage you to either, seek another administrator coach, or to get back in touch with me in a month or two, to see if I have a "slot open".
- Kind regards, Anthøny 07:55, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Approval
I put myself on approval for VandalSniper. Check the page when you have time! Vinson (talk) 01:40, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- Noted. Thank you for informing me; I shall attend to your application when an opportunity arises. This may, however, not be for up to a week.
- All the best, Anthøny 18:55, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] An invitation to the NotTheWikipediaWeekly
G'day NotTheWikipediaWeeklian (p'raps we need a catchier nom de plume?) - it's terribly short notice but I'm going to be hosting a discussion tomorrow, Thursday 15th May at 23.00 UTC (head to the 'NotTheWikipediaWeekly' page for full info, and a date and time convertor) - that's about 21 hours from now....... There could well be an additional conversation 24 hours later - so take your pick! - I will likely cover the topics which I nominated, and am aiming for a snappy 40minute conversation - do come along if you can! cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 02:09, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- Noted; thanks for the notification, Privatemusings. This indeed short notice, but that's not a problem. What may be, however, is the relatively late scheduled time; we seem to now be favouring episodes that fall conveniently in other time zones. :) I will, most likely, not be able to attend: 12 midnight is perhaps a little late, as I will be up-and-out tomorrow morning (for once =).
- We shall, however, see how it goes; I'm aware of the joining procedure. If I'm available, I shall be there.
- Anthøny 18:55, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Arb
- I respect Thatcher's sig. He would not have rm'ed without personal consideration and approval from the committee.
- Raul, on his talk, agreed that it could be removed.
- When an unnecessary shitstorm gets removed from view, it's best to leave it from view.
Thanks. Marskell (talk) 21:54, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- Fair points, Marskell. Shortly after I had left you the message on your talk page, I found an arbitrator in the arbitration clerks channel:
-
-
<[AGK]> It's to remain off of WP:RFAR for the time being?
<James_F> Yes, please.- "it" is a reference to the "the_undertow" request for arbitration. Agreement was sought to publish this log on-wiki, from james_f; respective logs available upon request.
-
- I now concur with your action. Thank you for your prompt response and explanation.
- Anthøny 22:02, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
