[edit] Dear Helper
Could you please tell me about what to do if the vandaliser is unregistered? Also, i have found that not all registered users have talk pages. Does everyone have one and I am looking in the wrong place, or what is wrong?
Please help, and thank you for your last assistance. I will use the templates and not leave reasons in articles any more.
Thanks Anthony.
- Well, for starters, the best way to fix vandalism is not to edit the page but simply to "revert": see Help:Reverting. If you look at the history of a frequently vandalized page like George W. Bush, you see that it's full of reverts (usually marked as "rv" or "rvv" for "reverted vandalism" in the edit histories). that way you're just returning the page to the previous state. You can leave a message on a Talk page for someone with an IP address, and they'll still get it. For example, I left a message using the {{test4-n}} template on User_talk:167.7.248.212 when they vandalized Limestone. Of course, you don't have the power to block people, but stern warnings often work. Poke around frequently vandalized pages, check out the edit histories and diffs and see how other do it, and of course check out WP:RC. thanks for helping! bikeable (talk) 19:33, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Reply
Apologies,
It was accidental to place that comment on your talk page; it was designed for another users.
However, thank you for the information that no-one has deliverately vandalised. Once again, I apologise for the accident.
Thank you, Anthony 19:23, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
- Here is my diff. From what you just said, it appears that the action which was recorded by this diff was not due to a bot, but I am still curious. Are you executing a script with parameters or a version ID? Are you parsing a history? I do not believe the message was created by hand. That is why I am curious. Regards, --Ancheta Wis 19:28, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
- On the face of it, you are generating a script for use by RC Patrol. True? --Ancheta Wis 19:31, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
I'll vote. --DanielCD 19:34, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Vandalism
I am sorry, the kind woman helping me when i started out pointed out comments about anti-vandalism are designed to be placed on the User Talk page; I have not yet reverted one of my comments miscorrectly placed on the page, but you have pointed out. Thank you.
Also, please forgive me but I am relatively new to Wikipedia, so I really do not know what you mean by a script for the RC Patrol! (obviously i know what the RC patrol is, but how do you write a script?()
Thanks, Anthony 19:34, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
I asked because your usage pattern seemed to be time-based somehow.
OK. You are not generating a script, and you somehow placed your antivandalism message on my page inadvertently. But for your information I had also just reverted a vandal. Did you mean to direct your message to:
- 19:16, 14 March 2006 (hist) (diff) Talk:Main Page
- 19:08, 14 March 2006 (hist) (diff) Talk:Main Page
- 19:07, 14 March 2006 (hist) (diff) Talk:Main Page
The one who vandalized the Main Page Talk at these times? 19:43, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
I am sorry, i am not sure if it is the same person; if i can check, I will get back to you.
The reason they are all similar time frame is becuase I am using the RC Patrol's "Lupin" Checker, an excellent anti-swearing tool that scans ALL recent changes against a hugh banned words list and shows them to members of the RC Patrol to edit. The list of recent changes that match the banned language list is displayed, with quicklinks to the vandaliser's talk page, and an auto-warning option to immediately send. If you are in the RC Patrol, you should consider it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Lupin/Anti-vandal_tool
Once again, I am sorry i cannot identify if the vandaliser i warned is the same on your talk page. I will get back to you as soon as i know.
Thanks Anthony 19:50, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Say What?
It's vandalism to fix mistakes and add comments to Talk pages? I'm sorry. I guess I had the wrong idea about Wikipedia. I'll stop contributing.
Thanks, Mac OS X 20:01, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Reply to Mac OS X
Dear "Mac OS X"
Please do not stop contributing to Wikipedia, however your addition was incorrect. Please do not take offense, but simply consider additions more carefully.
It is possibly someone is using your account, or there is a bug under your name. Please contact the Administrator or place {{helpme}} on your talk page for more detailed assistance.
Thank You

Could I get a description of how an addition was incorrect instead of a message simply informing me that everything I'm doing is vandalism? I haven't noticed any of my contributions being reversed.
Thanks,

[edit] Please take a little more time learning
Anthony cfc,
You really should not police others until you understand policy. When you contact the next alleged offender, please cite a link to the policy to them so that we can check that you are enforcing an appropriate item. I recommend that you start reading by reading Wikipedia:Five pillars. If you enjoy RC Patrol, then by all means, stay there, but you mustn't drive people away by incorrectly stating Wikipedia policy.
True, there is a lot to learn. But practice on your own turf first, before you start to drive away editors. --Ancheta Wis 20:29, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Could you be more specific?
You've suggested I've made nonsense or obscene changes to Wikipedia. Could you be more specific? I believe you are mistaken. --Joe Decker 08:19, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm an admin, and I indefinitely blocked him after posting that notice. Thanks for the post-nomination though, that's two people now who have nominated me after the fact :) And since I nominated myself originally, I accept these as retroactive noms. :D --Golbez 21:00, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:Class334 3-car juniper.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Class334 3-car juniper.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 16:05, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RE: Trains Project
You are quite welcome to become a member of the Trains WikiProject. And of course, all you need to do is to add your name to the member list (which you have already have done), and you are officially a member. You are, therefore, not breaking any rules. Heya! Just thought I'd drop by to say, I'm really glad you liked my userpage enough to try a similar design - I didn't think it was anything special, but maybe I was wrong. I'm so proud! :) By the way, I fixed the redlink to Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains/Todo, to make your first todo box work properly - hope you don't mind. See you around! [edit] Your VandalProof Application
Dear Anthony cfc,
Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that at this time you do not meet the minimum requirement of 250 edits to mainspace articles (see under main here). Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof. Prodego talk 13:53, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] My RfA
Thanks!
Thank you very much for your support on my recent Request for Adminship, and for your awesomely kind words in your rationale. :) The request was ultimately unsuccessful - which wasn't entirely surprising - and so I'll be taking special care to address the concerns raised by the opposing !voters before running again. If you have any feedback for me, please don't hesitate to leave it at my talk page. Thanks! |
[edit] A RfA thank you from en:User:Xyrael
I'd like to thank you Anthony cfc for either supporting, opposing, commenting, nominating, reading, editing, promoting and/or anything else that you may have done for my successful request for adminship (I've broken the one thousand sysop barrier!); I'm thanking you for getting involved, and for this I am very grateful. I hope to be able to serve Wikipedia more effectively with my new tools and that we can continue to build our free encyclopedia, for knowledge is power, but only wisdom is liberty. Please do feel free to get in touch if you feel you can improve me in any way; I will be glad to listen to all comments. Again, thanks 8) —Xyrael / 11:56, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I'm not quite sure what you intended, but User:Anthonycfc is a redirect from article space into user space, which I'm sure you know is not allowed. Nothing links to it, and I have tagged it for speedy deletion. Regards, Mr Stephen 10:54, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Userbox for family with MS
Hi. I see that you undid my change to the User MS Family userbox, and in your edit summary you put "Noting what text you use to add the userbox, for easier use."
Now, I don't know about you, but the text I would use to add that userbox is {{User:Ginkgo100/Userboxes/User MS Family}}. Normally that makes the userbox appear on your page. However, with the changes you made to the userbox, typing that makes this appear on your page:
|
Can you see the problem? ~ ONUnicorn (Talk / Contribs) 18:39, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- hey there; yes I see the problem. You're right and the text you want to add ({{User:Ginkgo100/Userboxes/User MS Family}}) is definitley the right version compared to the essay of text I had previously! Everything on Wikipedia is subject to being edited mercilessly and this is no exception. So go ahead, be bold and change that text!
No harm done
Cheers
[edit] Possibly unfree Image:Class334 3-car juniper.jpg

- The situation has been resolved positively, with the picture of the Class 334 Juniper (which is in use all over Wikipedia and which would be missed gravley) being kept on Wikipedia. This message is posted for all those interested.

[edit] Welcome to Esperanza!
Welcome, Anthony cfc, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Have you considered using the 5 tilde date stamp (~~~~~) sequence instead of that mess of individual date templates? I believe that would shrink your sig by almost an entire line in the edit box. --tjstrf 04:48, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

How can I create a sig to make it be: Teh tennisman, then superscript small green font 'speak your piece' for my talk page? i notice ppl with them, and i'd like mine like that Teh tennisman 20:01, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

- Hey there; if you're looking how to get the colour etc.. then you might want to take a look at the code I use for my own signature; the code is located on my sandbox (see my userpage for a link). Basically, to get the sig you're looking for it would be something along the lines of "[[User:Teh tennisman|Teh tennisman]]<font color="#008000"><span style="font-size: 1"> [[User_talk:Teh_tennisman|speak your piece]]</span></font>" which becomes >Teh tennisman speak your piece.
