User:AGK/Header

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This template employs intricate features of template syntax.
You are encouraged to familiarise yourself with its setup and parser functions before editing the template. If your edit causes unexpected problems, please undo it quickly, as this template may appear on a large number of pages.
Remember that you can conduct experiments, and should test all improvements, in either the general Template sandbox or your user space before changing anything here.

This template is intended for use in my User:- and User talk:- namespaces. Feel free to pinch it (or bits of it), but, as you can see from the template above, it's quite intricate, so you'll need to watch yourself (don't hesitate to drop me a note if you need help).

The header covers a number of functions:

  • Backlog header - if the page has a backlog that needs my attention (e.g., lots of User talk:- messages);
  • WikiBreak message - if I'm on a WikiBreak;
  • Icons - these are displayed by default (and provide graphical links to a few of the pages you can find me at), but the header has an option to turn them off.
  • Nested right-corner links - similar to above, this is on by default, but can be turned off. It shows the time where I currently am, my status (provided by Chris G Bot 3 (taskscontribsactions logblock logflag logmakebot) , with thanks) and some other useful features.
  • In use message: using another aspect of my userpage, User:AGK/In Use, this has the option of posting a kindly-worded request for a page in my userspace not to be edited at the moment, due to important content or work-in-progress.

Brief examples:

{{User:AGK/Header|backlog=yes|wikibreak=yes|datetime=no|icons=no}}

Just drop the parameters not required.

The datetime and icons parameters are turned on by default; the others are turned off by default. I intend to add a "header" (navbar or other style) to this, but for the present there is not one.
