[edit] A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jolly Roger

Hi
Re. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jolly Roger Restaurant The stub for deletion was cut out of Lake City, Seattle, Washington at Storied past. The cut was soon repaired, but this scrap was left over. (Perhaps the editor should have been experimenting at WP:Sandbox].) The stub should have been sent via WP:PROD.

In light of further info (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jolly Roger Restaurant), and that the topic already exists in complete form in the context of its neighborhood (expanded and per Wikipedia:Manual of style, would you consider changing your vote? For Wikipedia, I would prefer disposing of this odd snippet, rather than leaving a scrap lying about. Thank you --GoDot 09:34, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Dear sir
Re. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jolly Roger Restaurant, I am seeking consensus. Toward meeting your interests, the topic already exists in improved and complete form, per Wikipedia standards, in context, at Lake City, Seattle, Washington#Storied past. The piece was chopped out by a newbie. The damage was soon repaired, and I've been trying to clean up this uprooted duplicate leftover. For Wikipedia quality, I would prefer disposing of this odd snippet, rather than leaving a scrap lying about. I am the original researcher and author of the topic in the article, post [1]. The Jolly Roger story is an integral part of the character of Lake City, but it is otherwise not particularly encyclopedic.

So toward consenus, would you change your vote? Thank you for your consideration. --GoDot 11:08, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pradip Somasundaran

This is a message to all Category:Kerala Wikipedians

I want your opinion on this particular person Pradip Somasundaran. He claims to be a famous singer in Kerala. Now being a Malayalee, I have not heard of this person before, so I wonder whether or not you have heard of him before and set this issue straight. If so, then please let your opinion be counted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pradip Somasundaran. Please note that by voicing your opinion as a Malayalee/Keralite will add more weight to your words.

Many Thanks --Ageo020 21:42, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Ageo

I don't know why you are still insisting on deleting Pradip's article. Can't you see the number of votes which he has recieved from the ordinary people of Kerala. Even though being a Malayali, you have not heard of Pradipettan's greatness. Shame on you. It is people like you who destroy a man's credibility and fame in 10 minutes which took him a lifetime to create. You put your silly opinions on AFD such as google hits and what on but the poor ordinary working class people of Kerala who find relief in the music of such greats such as Pradip will look down upon you. You still see darkness when the light is shining upon you.--130.216.191.84 23:14, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Auckland University

Hello! Thanks for the note on Pradeep Somasundaran. However, I'm not sure how you discovered this page and am a bit confused by this edit of yours. Why did you link it to Auckland University? A reply would be much appreciated. Thanks. -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK16:28, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Oh, never mind that question. Thanks for repling though. I was confused because my "Welcome" page at User:Deepujoseph/welcome is not listed in Category:Kerala Wikipedians. My concern was because I might have substituted the template somewhere, thus providing a wrong link to a new user. However all occurences of link changing by the malfunctioning proxy has been reverted. So no worries. Happy wikiing!-- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK13:08, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pradip Somasundaran

SORRY FOR EXTREMELY LATE Hi, The guy is a singer and not so famous. But I know him as he was a professor too. he got some awards for contests like "Meri Awaz Suno" conducted at National level in the 90s.

[edit] Pradip Smasundaran

I have not issued any legal threats. I only told that I will go to the arbitration committe, not outside wiki. Please re-read my statement there again.I also do not have anything personal against you. You did your job. I did mine. That's all. If you do not have anything against pradip you should learn to stop giving personal remarks even after this issue is over now. I did not ask your opinion again. So why did you say it again? You already made your point there on the discussion page. Now why again say this to me?? Means you still have not got over this issue. There are thousands of such deletion issues here. If we go on taking all as our personal problem we will all be mad one day. After all somasundaran is not related to me or you! Just that I know more about him than you. Please do not work like this. The right thing would have been to counter the opinions there on the discussion page. Saying again and again that "Bush is not the president of the US" will not make it so! I may not want him to be president but he was voted to power by democracy! So that means he is popular. Same here. There are thousands of others who are his fans and know him in Kerala and abroad. If you do not know about him that does not mean that all should stop knowing him. Do not force your opinion on others. Live and let live! So just forget this issue. let's work together for improving the musician related articles here rather than being "paaras" for each other. Already we malayalees have this bad image of having intolerance against one another. Happy friendship day Ageo! No hard feelings man. Please do not hesitate to seek my help on any issue you might have in future. I also will do the same. God bless you. Amen! --Gluewhale 11:07, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi..

Ageo, No hard feelings man.. I had only one thing that I didnt like.. The way some people, including you, commented that 'I havent heard of him, so delete'. That was the driving power we had to counter. As we know, wiki and internet will not have details unless someone puts it up. As some of the participants did, It is safer to take a neutral stand if you are unaware of it.

Anyways, past is past.. lets work together to get things up. I have a small request.. Heard that you had sent personal messages to pradip. Please settle that with him, if it is true. It takes a lot to be a person of his calibre. This is not an embarrassment or something, just a courtesy.

Just take a look at തനി മലയാളം ബ്ലോഗുകള്‍when you get a chance.

Regards --Jyothis 04:13, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] From Gluewhale

Ageo. Thank you for admitting your mistake. This means you are sincere. We are all here to volunteer our free time for something creative. As wiki norms suggest everyone who contributes does so with a good intntion. Even the person who masqueraded as pradip somasundaran might have had good intentions. But he might not have had any details to make the article look good ar stand. So I will blame only the person who immediately put it for deletion instead of giving a call for its updation. But it's just coincidence that I joined here by the end of the fight there. By that time jyothis had already collected lot of info which we all did not know. We should always have an open mind in such cases when celebrities are involved. we may not have the knowneldge in a particular field to make hasty decesions. So wait and watch is the best policy. Also there was nothing improper here too. After all we were not dealing with any objectionable material or matter of utmost importance. Then I also collected details from my available sources and now the article gives a very good picture of the person. This is our job here.I also plan to write abount many such people, as I am in cochin and can get first hand information from them. Anyway past is past. I already told you, I absolutely do not have anything against you. What I fought was for justice and dignity. So just forgive me too if I had bee a little rough. I am not like that personally. We will need each other's co-operation again that I have decided to be here for long.Whatever I do will be with sincere intention of expanding the knowledge of people by providing fist hand information even on the tiniest of important things! Thank you. I appreciate your action. Have you visited somasundaram's blog? Great music blog. None of the singers in Kerala have a blog of that kind. You can also leave a nice comment on his blog. God bless you. Amen. --GlueWhale 07:04, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bijaya Jena

The first AFD debate was on an article whose entire content consisted of the sentence "This is a place holder for Bijaya Jena, an actor, producer and director." That article was deleted, and then a new, much longer article was written in its stead. You can start a new AFD if you'd like (which you would do by adding "(second nomination)" to the AFD title, not by linking back to the original debate), but the original AFD does not stand as a legitimate reason to delete an entirely different version of the article. [edit] Chiricheppu exists

Ageo, Thanks. I am relieved that you are well. Chiricheppu does exist. But there are thousands of such magazines here in Kerala. The claims of 50,000 circulation copies may not be true though. See my comments on the deletion page. GlueWhale 01:19, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Rightly said Ageo. Yo should put the above facts on the AFD page of Chiricheppu, so that all others get know that these so called supporters have nothing to contribute for wiki, other than throwing irresponsible remarks and threats on our user pages. GlueWhale 01:38, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: The Emily Duggan article.

I think this article is a very valid one indeed. It is not advertising, it is simply allowing the public to recognize a talented writer who may soon become one recognized nationally. Would it not be wonderful, then, to have the first intensive records of such a young phenomenon? Would it not present you in the light of having trust in such a figure from her earliest days? Surely this would be a gain worth receiving, and considering the contribution to the public, I implore you to allow this article to remain here, until there is need for it to be edited in order to meet the demands of her public. Imagine, then, a larger audience, and more demand-- surely these benefits would also be crucial to the upkeeping of this spectacular resource. You will be making a wise decision, then, to let this little article remain sturdy and sound, until such time that, as is the essence of fame, it grows and grows and grows and blossoms magnificently, and your own public along with it.
