Afzal Tahir

Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir (born January 4, 1949) is the current chief of naval staff of the Pakistan Navy. He took over the command of Pakistan Navy from Admiral Shahid Karimullah in October 2005, who was due to retire in October 2005.[1]
Admiral Tahir did his initial training with 40 PMA Long Course in 1967 at PMA Kakul. He was commissioned in the Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1970 and saw action in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. He then joined Naval Aviation in 1973 and later qualified as a helicopter warfare instructor. He is a graduate of Joint Services Staff College and National Defence College, Islamabad.[2]
