NOTE: There is a story today in the Washington Post which describes the anti-inflamatory benefits of Aframomum melegueta - which may become a big part of the subject of this spice: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/26/AR2006112600730.html Perhaps the Wikipedians working on this entry may want to look at this new aspect of the subject. jbreck@nyc.rr.com
The script contains the following: "Essential oil, which is the dominating flavor component in the closely related cardamom, occur only in traces." The essential oil from an animal or vegetable source contains aromatic chemicals, characteristic of that flora or fauna. In the context used, it is nondescript, it is meaningless. It should read thus: " The essential oil contains only traces of those substances found in the closely related black cardamom." Waaza 27th Dec 2006
