Afrania gens
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Afrania was an ancient Roman gens of plebeian origin. It is first mentioned in the 2nd century BC. The only cognomen of this gens which occurs under the republic is Stellio. Some persons of this name evidently did not belong to the Afrania gens. On coins we find only S. Afranius and M. Afranius, of whom nothing is known.[1][2]
Notable Afranii include Lucius Afranius, consul in 60 BC, and Sextus Afranius Burrus, tutor and advisor to the emperor Nero. For others, see Afranius.
