Afonso Gonçalves Baldaia

Afonso Gonçalves Baldaia was a 15th Century portuguese sailor and explorer, who was born in Porto. In 1435 he captained one of two ships which crossed the Tropic of Cancer, the first time that this is recorded to have been done by Europeans since the Phoenecians in 813 BC.[1]
