Greetings,
I have thus far contributed entries to the skin color, hair texture, and natural hair adaptation sections. I attained Bachelors and Masters degrees in Biology (specifically evolutionary genetic anthropology in graduate school) in 2000 and 2004 respectively. I then taught biology at the high school level for three years. I am now studying to attain a Ph.D. in science education. My goal is to one day work for the U.S. Department of Education. In addition, I would like to write at least one scientifically based book (aimed at a general audience) that synthesizes the scientific evidence available concerning the evolution of the diverse human hair textures (among other things). I find that evidence is pouring in on this topic as the years pass. Furthermore, it is important that we have a somewhat objective understanding of the possible evolutionary contexts in which the diverse 'racial' traits arose. Otherwise, 'minorities' (ie people with dark skin, Asian eyes, dark hair, and/or natural Afro-hair) --especially young and impressionable ones--will be even more prone to the conclusion that nature (or 'God') simply must have made a 'mistake' in not making them look more 'mainstream' (light skinned, wide eyed, and light and straight haired). This is a fallacy. Thus, in my opinion, there should be references that help people to understand the amazing evolutionary adaptations that have enhanced our ancestors' survival throughout time and our existance across the planet. Such a work would be a fitting tribute to our ancestors' survival as we transition into a global context in which our racial differences will likely gradually diminish by way of admixture.
Peace.
