[edit] AfD nomination of Foo

I've nominated Foo, an article you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Foo satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; I have explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Foo and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Foo during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you.

[edit] Comments

Some comments:

  1. the {{nothanks}} template begins with "Welcome to Wikipedia," etc. Maybe we also need a sentence to that effect, since this template is likely to be the first message on the user talk page where it is placed; (alternative: a separate template for the other case)
  2. should this template be subst'ed? (I guess so)

Regarding the first point, I'd definitely say a seperate template should be created if there's a need to double this warning as a welcome message. The template is intended for general notifications of AfDs, often established editors too create an article that might be sent to AfD, and they seem to want notification more than new users do. It might seem snarky to post a "welcome to Wikipedia!" message to an editor with 10,000 edits. Regarding subst'ing, yeah since that would seem to be appropriate. --W.marsh 15:24, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
I have created {{Template:AFDWarningNew}}. Edit at will. - Liberatore(T) 14:22, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Regarding the second point, this template should always be subst:ed so section editing will work as expected. --cesarb 10:02, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Royal "we"

Who the hell is "we"? Are you speaking in king's plural? Tobias Conradi (Talk) 16:29, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Actually, that was a template. Not elitism. Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 16:39, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
I wonder how the hell this ended up on the template page. I was editing Tobias' talk page. o_O Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 16:58, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
The template included a section heading. When you click on that heading, the server thinks you wanted to edit the template. You can avoid this by using {{subst:foo}} instead of {{foo}} when using the template, to swap in the template's content, instead of just having a reference to the template. --Christopher Thomas 17:28, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
