[edit] Book picture

Truely marvellous picture for Book design. Thanks! -Quiddity 19:17, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ibn al-Haitham

Thanks for the reference re: Roger Bacon's citing of Ibn al-Haitham. It would be nice to know where Bacon got the Latin translation of Kitab al-Manazir from. Many sources cite Witelo's Perspectiva, but I'm not sure the dates are correct/possible. It appears an anonymous scholar translated Kitab al-Manazir before Witelo, but so far, I've not been able to dig out the proper chronology or relationships between the texts with the resources at my disposal. The same source (Lindberg, Roger Bacon and the Origins of Perspectiva. p. xxxiii) gives, that Alhacens treatise was translated by "an anonymous translator" in the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th c. Again the same gives (xcv) that 1268. Bacon dispatched his Perspectiva and Witelo used Bacons writings. This is evident from the example of the rainbow which closely resembles that of Bacon. Also Witelos prefatory letter reveals baconian influence. Before Bacon Robert Grosseteste (ca 1168-1253) was not familiar with Alhacens works, Albert the Great (ca 1200-1280) was, but didn’t like the mathematization of vision. At the moment I dont't have the "Alhacen's Theory of Visual Perception", I will check if there is anything more specific about the origin of the latin translation. --Aethralis 06:43, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for that. It looks like some articles in Wikipedia need updating, as they say Witelo influenced Bacon, rather than the other way round. WLD 08:46, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bede Image

Thanks for adding the more contemporary image to Bede but, unfortunately, it's not authentic. I've restored the ugly, but "authentic", image from the Nuremburg Chronicle. See Talk:Bede --SteveMcCluskey 02:46, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for that link. My mistake. → Aethralis 09:35, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Diamond Sutra

Hi, Thanks for your addition to Woodblock printing. I removed the last sentence because the first bit about seals & rubbings was already covered in the article & because the second part, re the Chinese book trade presumably relates to manuscripts only & was confusing. If you have found references to printed books earlier than the ones given in the article now, please cite references. But any more information is most welcome Johnbod 21:22, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

also, your recent edits to Book also appreciated, DGG 02:21, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] εθος vs ἦθος

The inability to see the epsilon in the Ethos article seems to supersede any benefit gained out of maintaining whatever character is displayed when one sees "ἦ". If it is supposed to be an eta and not an epsilon (which is possible since I am only a learner of Greek) then there is a perfectly useable character available in "ή", and I am uncertain why we must maintain "ἦ" at the sacrifice of visibility. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Iwpoe (talkcontribs) 11:00, 29 November 2006.

[edit] Book of optics

Hi, You've put disputed tag on the image and it's incorrect. I uploaded the image which you mentioned:Image:Alhazen's book.jpg. Please discuss about the correct image in talk:Ibn al-Haytham. Thanks.--Sa.vakilian(t-c) 03:39, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
