[edit] Notability
This page is entirely non-notable. Who are these people? Have they done anything important? — Chris53516 (Talk) 06:23, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
- Did you even READ this article and the article about the blog's author? According to the notability notice, The best way to address this concern is to reference published, third-party sources about the subject. There are lots of these. I will just highlight a few in case you missed them:
- Science blogs are becoming important in scientific culture, as noted in all kinds of leading publications, including Science magazine, probably the most important broad peer-reviewed science journal in the USA and one of the best in the world, as noted in the article. We have articles on Pharyngula (blog) and Panda's Thumb (blog) for that very reason! Whether we like it or not, the internet is becoming more and more important as an information transmission medium in science, and this blog is at the vanguard of this movement and sea change. If these two blogs are notable, then this one is notable. After all, the author of Aetiology is also an author of Panda's Thumb!
- This blog was ranked number 7 in a study by Nature magazine, one of the best and most prestigious peer-reviewed science magazines in the world, out of 46 million blogs. That is nothing to sneeze at!!
- This blog, which is a biology blog, was also mentioned in Cell (journal), the most prestigious peer-reviewed biology journal in the world. Just that alone should be enough to clinch notability, frankly.
- Excerpts from this blog have been published in a book which was reviewed in Nature magazine! A single mention by Nature should be enough to push this blog to notability.
- Who are these people? The author has engaged in a large amount of pro-science activism, including circulating faculty petitions, being active in politics, starting the Iowa Citizens for Science, that includes dozens of PhDs and faculty members at local universities, sponsoring and organizing meetings and debates and discussions and forums. This blog is an integral component of this activity. She is getting national and international media attention for it, as noted in the articles. She was recently chosen as moderator of a panel discussion recorded and broadcast by CNN and CSPAN, at a conference where the Democratic presidential candidates appeared on one of the later panel discussions! That is not notable? When was the last time you were broadcast for an hour or two on CSPAN? When was a panel discussion you hosted last newsworthy enough that CNN covered it? When was the last time you wrote a letter to an editor and a newspaper editor wrote a column about it? --Filll 13:50, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Cleanup tag
What needs to be cleaned up? It has references. They are in an accepted format. I see no major English or grammar problems. It is very short of course, and more information could be added, but it is new. I have had several users including senior editors look at it and offer suggestions and edits. Where is the problem exactly?--Filll 14:06, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
