[edit] Total Worldwide Album Sales for Albums

Where do the worldwide album sales (estimates) come from? They've been there (and modified several times) for a long time, even before this separate discography page was created, and I've always wondered where these figures are dervied from. Are people just guestimating? Is there any legitimate way of tallying worldwide record sales, including back all the way to 1973? I know the U.S. figures are accurate (albeit outdated in some cases) as they are derived from official certifications by the RIAA. But I'm still wondering about the worldwide albums sales. I know that Columbia Records has reported Aerosmith to have sold a grand total of well over 100 million albums worldwide, but where are the worldwide sales for each album being derived? Any help in trying to get sources for this information or if these are just pure estimates by Wikipedians themselves would be appreciated. Thanks. --Abog 00:19, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
