In the fictional world of the fantasy trading card game Magic:The Gathering, the two continents and accompanying islands of Aerona are located on Dominaria, six thousand miles east of Terisiare. They are surrounded by the Honeyed Sea, the Voda Sea, the Sea of Whales and the Rip. Aerona derives its name from an ancient goddess of fertility who, according to legend, sacrificed herself to let people take crops from her body.

The landmass south of the the Rip and north of Hurloon. The climate in the northern part almost equals that of the continent of Icehaven.

[edit] Bade Mountains
Southern range of mountains of Hammerheim.
[edit] Wild Woods

A blighted country northeast of the Hurloon Mountains. The native country of Torsten von Ursus, who was driven away after an evil mage began its rule.
[edit] Jenges
City on the east coast of Wrenna. Home to the legendary Knights of Jenges
[edit] Muronia
A land in the southeastern part of North Aerona. Like its northern neighbour Wrenna, it is slowly succumbing to corruption's cold embrace.
[edit] South Aerona
[edit] Hurloon Mountains
The Hurloon Mountains are a range of impassable peaks linking North and South Aerona. They are connected to the Red Iron Mountains in the west and the Ironclaw Mountains in the southeast. They are mostly known for its habitation by hairy tattooed Minotaurs. The minotaurs arrived here centuries ago from the north after being forced from their homeland by the encroaching glaciers.
[edit] Hurloon Valley
The Minotaurs of Hurloon chose to take shelter in the caves until the cold ended. They live in small tribes, the largest of which is in the fertile Hurloon Valley. Torsten von Ursus studied minotaur philosophy here for several years. His belief that these minotaurs were more than savage beasts was revolutionary at the time (and still is among the less educated).

[edit] Kb'Briann Highlands
Region once controlled by the Order of the Closed Fist. Closed in between Benalia, Llanowar and the Red Iron Mountains.
[edit] Avenant
An island north of Benalia, Avenant is almost impossible to approach as it is fiercely protected by an army of female archers and ballista. It once formed a part of Benalia, but was lost after an insult by an unwise Joryev Clanleader. Others say it was a Ternsev leader who fell in love with an Avenant prince's daughter. She did not take well to her kidnapping, and neither did her father. Avenant is a Matriarchy led by a suzeraine. Avenant's archers are also trained as poets, so that each arrow is guided by a fragment of verse.
[edit] Benalia
Benalia is a militaristic nation made prosperous thanks to the rich harvests of the Spice Isles she controls. Located in the northwest of South Aerona, it is bordered by the Red Iron Mountains, the Kb'Briann Highlands, the Llanowar Forest and the Durkwood. It's located east of the Spice Isles and south of Avenant Isle. This empire formed after the Ice Age, growing from the ashes of the Sheoltun Empire of Tobias Andrion (the great Horse Civilization). After his years among the Hurloon Minotaurs, Torsten von Ursus stumbled upon the blighted city of Benfosa which he thought was a perfect place to implement his gathered wisdom and philosophies. He chose the name Benalia, which means aspiration, proclaiming its intent to rule the world. Using sometimes-brutal tactics he brought an entire nation into being using nothing more than the force of his will and the brutal charisma of the natural leader. After succeeding in much of his goal, he died at the age of seventy-two, leaving behind the legendary Lost Edict, proclaiming that none of his seven lieutenants would follow him up as sole ruler of Benalia. Aside from the Spice Isles, Benalia also controlled Terisiare During the Phyrexian Invasion, Benalia (birthplace of Gerrard Capashen) was the first nation victimized by Tsabo Tavoc's specialized killers. It was conquered in under a month and held for the duration of the war.
[edit] Benalia City
The seaport Benalia lies on the tip of a small, west reaching peninsula in the north of Benalia. It is characterized by the Seven Pillars, representing the seven ruling clans (Rosecot, Deniz, Tarmula, Ternsev, Capashen, Joryev and Croger). It has a caste system that changes with the lunar year; the seven clans each rule a different division of the empire each year. The capital has a population exceeding 200,000 and is the largest city in Aerona. The most popular religion is the Church of Angelfire, of which over one fifth of all Benalkin identify themselves as members of. This is due to its similarity to the Church of Serra, which worshipped the planeswalker Serra, whose worship was condemned in Benalia.

[edit] Llanowar
A gigantic lush forest region in South Aerona, southeast of Benalia. It ranges in width from several hundred miles to over a thousand miles at its widest point. This haunted forest is peopled by the Llanowar Elves, fierce beings who are outcasts among elvenkind, and the Redwood Treefolk. The forest is known to goblins as the Forest of Death.
The elves in Llanowar divide themselves into tribes, or elfhames. There are seven of these elven kingdoms contained within the forest realm. Each elfhame has a distinct populace, territory, leadership and social structure. They range from communal treetowns to tribal matriarchies. Although most of them get along with one another, there is occasional strife between them. Since the Ice Age the Llanowar have had to protect their forest from the ravages of outsiders seeking precious firewood. Though they do have some contact with their neighbours, they have done a remarkable job of keeping other peoples and cultures from influencing their home. They maintain a strict belief, grounded in religion, that they must keep some distance from other peoples in order to retain their mystical connection to nature and their forest home. This isolationist philosophy is taken to its most extreme by the Order of the Steel Leaf, a select cadre of Llanowar said to have been brought together by the Freyalise herself. The beautiful half-elven planeswalker is considered a goddess by the elves of Llanowar, who are unaware of her heritage.
During the Phyrexian Invasion all Llanowar rallied around the Rathi elvenking Eladamri's banner and united in his name.

[edit] Sursi
The name "Sursi" describes both a large plateau on the east coast, bordering the Erg Mirab, and the village located there. The village is near the breeding grounds of the fabled mesa pegasi. It is also near the Cathedral of Serra, a place of worship built by Angus to honor Serra and her angels. In obscure Sursi lore, the only portal to Ulgrotha on Dominaria was once located near the village. According to the records, the method to use the gate was quite specific: In the cold waters of a deep lake near Sursi lie three menhir stones stacked to form a doorway. If one were to pass through that doorway when the Mist Moon were full and there were snow on the ground, then one would find oneself shortly thereafter in the Koskun Mountains of Ulgrotha.
[edit] Barbar
Large wooded peninsula in the southwest of South Aerona
[edit] Verdura
A large beautiful Island covered with forests and woodlands, directly south of Barbar. The inhabitants of Verdura, mostly female, originated from all over Dominiaria. The Verduran Enchantresses, competent spellcasters who specialize in enchantment and transformation, live in small inland villages. They have devoted their lives to the avatar of Verdura, a decidedly female entity of great power whose true name is known only to those sworn to the Verduran Order. They are sometimes hired as mercenaries, but they come high in price, and are usually paid in land and holdings. Males and those who seek plunder and violence are treated with no respect. The Verduran males live in trading villages at the coast and are forbidden to travel inland upon threat of death.
