Aerial ladder

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An aerial ladder is one of the three basic categories of aerial apparatus.

The aerial ladder:

  • can telescope out to increase its length.
  • primary functions include: ventilation, rescue, elevated master streams, and access to upper floors.
  • may have a pre-piped waterway or a hand lay going up the center of the ladder.
  • some do not have an onboard water tank, but most modern aerial ladders do carry 300 to 500 gallons of water.
