Aelfinn

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aelfinn are a group of fictional 'people' in Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series.

The Aelfinn are beings that are snake-like in appearance and reside in a dimension outside that of "Randland" that one may get to through a twisted red doorway ter'angreal. Referred to as the Snake People, the Aelfinn have the ability to read the future by granting the visitor three questions they may ask, though the answer may not be that easy to understand. It has been recently revealed that one can also travel to the world of the Aelfinn (and/or Eelfinn) by way of the Tower of Ghenjei. There is some link between the Aelfinn and the game Snakes and Foxes, a game in which you cannot win unless you cheat.

Their "cousins" are the Eelfinn. Although this could be because they were under threat at the time, the Aelfinn seem to be far more benevolent than their cruel cousins.

[edit] Rescue Time?

"Courage to strengthen, fire to blind, music to daze, iron to bind."

As is seen in Knife of Dreams, Thom, Mat, Noal and possibly Aludra are heading towards the Tower of Ghenji to save Moiraine Damodred.

"Music to Daze" could be a reference to Thom, a gleeman.

"Iron to Bind" could be a reference to either Noal Charin or Mat Cauthon, as both wield many knives.

"Fire to Blind" could be a reference to Aludra and her 'dragons' and 'dragon eggs.'

"Courage to Strengthen" could be a reference to any of the above.
