Aegialodon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aegialodon was a mammal from the early Cretaceous.

[edit] In popular culture

Aegialodon is heavily featured in several chapters of the novel Raptor Red, which chronicles a year in the life of a female Utahraptor. The various triumphs of mammals (such as having teeth of different sizes and shapes to deal with food in different ways and the ability to convey emotions through facial expressions) are described as a male Aegialodon kills various prey items (most notably a scorpion) and survives an Ornithomimus attack. At one point the Aegialodon kills a swarm of disease-carrying assassin bugs, unwittingly saving the Utahraptor. Aegialodon is also portrayed as the ancestor of all modern mammals.
