Hi there Advanced, I'm Mun San from The Straits Times. I'm working on a story on SGpedians and would love to get some comments from you. Could you drop me a line at munsan@sph.com.sg or call me at 63195368? Thanks. - Nov 16

[edit] Future lines image no 2

Hey advanced. I really like your contemporary use of "legend", "lines" and "notes" - subtle yet prominent at the same time. ;) The actual MRT map has nothing like that. :D -- Natalinasmpf 17:51, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi Natalinasmpf , thanks for the compliment on the contemporary look of the map! Glad you liked it. Merry Christmas too! :P -- Advanced 18:36, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Off-Wiki Chat, Meetup

Hello, just to let you know there will be a meetup on June 23 (Friday) with SGpedians' and Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees Member Angela Beesley. Also, do you use MSN or IRC, so it is easier to contact you? Do leave your name at the meetup page if going. Hope to see you there and on IRC or MSN soon. --Terence Ong 13:17, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello, my msn address is: pine059(at)hotmail(dot)com. I've added you to my contacts. ( btw I don't use IRC.) And I would probably be going for the meetup if there aren't any last minute amendments(unlikely) in my schedule.

Thanks a lot

[edit] Rolling Stock on MRT revamp

Hello Calvin. Just wondering, after seeing how Wikipedians have compiled an article on ALL the rolling stock of the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) in Hong Kong, why don't we combine all the four articles into one? Also, it helps solve the problem on the article on Alstom Metropolis Cars being not representative, as with respect to variant types across the world. --Russianroulette2004 07:04, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

If I am not wrong, the contract number for the Alstom trains is C751A (not C751B as in the Kawasaki trains). You can check the LTA website (it's somewhere but I cannot find it) --Russianroulette2004 03:15, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: RI

To quote from WikiProject Schools, "the key to writing a good school article is to explain why the school is unique". I'm not a deletionist by any means, but the RI article is filled with information that either a) could apply to 90% of the other secondary schools in Singapore (such as the two-sentence-long section on OBS) or b) is non-notable to anyone other than Raffles Archive (such as the very short-lived existence of SIGs, or (for God's sake) the sort of ties that the male teachers receive from the school).

It wouldn't even be so bad if the information was

  • well-substantiated — ("The performing arts groups have also done consistently well in the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging, held once every two years, while the clubs and socities have won many awards too.")
  • written in a neutral point of view — ("The gryphon is a stately creature, majestic and strong, symbolizing stability and success for the school.") and/or
  • referenced — ("It is said that it is because the nowadays students spend too much time on the computer, and since the mission of the programme was to encourage students to use computers, its purpose had already been achieved"; "The inclusion of Prometheus is for his flame-bringing characteristic, signifying entrepreneurship while 'God' in this context is used ambiguously and as a reference to a higher being.").

The article is simply riddled with problems that no one wants to solve. Every day, RI boys ignore the cleanup tags on the article and continue to add more useless, unverifiable original research to the article. Verifiability is the key word here - any information that cannot be verified or sourced is most likely too non-notable to be included in the article. If you want the information I removed to remain in the article, then take up the challenge and fix it. Wikipedia has three fundamental policies governing article content: WP:V, WP:NOR, and WP:NPOV. As it stands, the article ignores the first two policies completely and rarely conforms to the third. If you can rewrite the article to follow all three policies, then I will stop deleting information I consider to be detrimental to the quality of the article. -ryand 15:38, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. All the best then - it's a lot of work to do. Drop me a message if you need any help and I'll try my best to. :) -ryand 16:22, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] C151 photography

The photos for the refurbished C151 were great, please keep up the good job!

In the meantime, if you have time to spare I think it's time we started taking photos of empty unrefurbished C151's interior (public accessible areas) inside out while they are still in the majority. Ideally we should have a extensive, free collection (perhaps a commons page of its own!) before the last C151 rolls into the depot for refurbishment.

Some things you may want to consider :

  • All three compartments D-M-M.
  • Corridor, door and safety features.
  • For driving motor, the front with the builder plate and the door in full view. If you have a lot of time, collect all four plates!
  • Experimental units w/ the dynamic in-train system

If you have some in your hard drive, do upload them! Happy Chinese New Year and train spotting! :) - Cheers, Mailer Diablo 08:28, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Question about one of your photos

Image:Singapore Skyline Raffles Place.jpg is beautiful! I was just curious - what are all those orange balls floating in the water? -- Beland 15:18, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Future MRT map

I was hoping for an update, and hey presto, it appears. Good job! ;)

Anyway, I noticed some small errors in the latest version. The white interchange station indicators for City Hall and Raffles Place seems to be missing, and the one for Punggol seems misplaced.

Also, it has been announced that the CCL will extend into Bayfront Station? You may have to draw two parallel lines between those two stations then. Not sure how far you intend to project into the future, but you may even consider adding a black line from Expo to Promenade station, which was the much touted southern section of the "former" Eastern Region Line (which may actually be resurrected in future when the loop is closed).--Huaiwei 12:22, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello, and thanks for the comments and suggestions!
Ill be doing these minor corrections of careless mistakes + CCL Extension, basically what has been announced by LTA as of date later.
After that, I'll add on the Eastern Region Loop, Circle Line from Marina Bay to Promenade, and seperate the lines, as another map which projects more into the future. I have a strong inclination too, that DTL would be split up into BTL and ERL in future too, what with that odd loop in the DTL, and the Marina Parade Section :)

[edit] Future and Past maps

It's great to see the updated map! Also, I just simply love the old mrt map you created at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Singapore_old_mrt_map.png . Brings back the memories of the old system :)

Oh, and some other "errors" on the map: missing interchange indicators for Tanah Merah, Outram Park, Macpherson and Chua Chu Kang. Also, Bras Basah is not an announced interchange between the DTL and CCL.

-155.69.173.239 06:08, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello there! Glad you liked the old MRT map, as well as the future one. Brings back memories for me too ;)
Ill be editing out these careless mistakes, as well as the Bras Basah/Bayfront errors soon too. Thanks for pointing them out. -Advanced 17:07, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New future map?

Hi! I noticed on your Singapore_mrt_lrt_map_future_version3.png picture you mentioned about viewing the "other version" for other lines like the completed CCL circle and the ERL. Just wanted to find out where i can find it? :)

Oahiyeel 07:32, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Hmm actually it's still not very complete and can be found only on.. my hard drive =) Heehee been busy lately and had to go overseas too. busy next week too but would be free after Friday, and Ill probably try to complete n post=)

[edit] Bukit Panjang LRT numbering error

In your "Singapore MRT LRT map future version3", BP1 is incorrectly coloured red, and the station numbers are wrong. South View should be BP2, Keat Hong BP3 etc. For the Marina Extension, Bayfront should be connected to Marina Bay. Anyway, thanks for the map.

[edit] Your pic on Singapore Expats

I see. That website.. is full of pictures copied from other sources. Even the other MRT images appear to have been copied from Siemens and Nippon Sharyo, while the LTA map appears there too, even watermarked by them. Ill see what I can do about it.
