[edit] Re: Big Four

I got Christ Illusion by Slayer to GA, and with the effort of others am going to get it to FA. In response to your proposal, I'm just keen to know a few things;

1. Your honest opinions on the average efforts of the Metal Wikiproject in improving Metal articles.

2. How you want these articles improved - are you of the mind of the Metal Wikiproject, or not? I personally am not for several reasons. LuciferMorgan 01:20, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

In response to your message, I'm afraid I won't be joining though thanks for the offer.
I find the Metal Wikiproject to be a disappointment frankly, and a shame considering what it could be (as opposed to what it is). When I attempted to keep Iron Maiden as an FA, I found their members largely disruptive, and very unhelpful to my cause. Additionally, when Skeletor worked his backside off to get Megadeth to FA hardly anyone helped, and the same for Metal Head when he worked on Slayer. As mostly a lone force in the Slayer Wikiproject, he's got down to some serious business and notched up an additional 3 GAs largely of his own accord. I got Christ Illusion to GA but that's it, and I rewrote Eyes of the Insane to B status.
If the Metal Wikiproject considers itself serious, then it's having a laugh. Me and Metal Head are more serious than all them put together, and the Slayer Wikiproject runs rings around the Metal Wikiproject to be frank.
It makes no valid effort to improvise articles, no nothing. It spends more time debating which genres a band belongs in than actually doing work, and when it does work all it does is add crufty original research in an article - typical words they use are "legendary", "classic" etc. in articles, and that's exactly what they shouldn't do. How about inline citations, WP:GA? or WP:FA?? Scan most of the Metal articles and they don't strive towards such goals. The Slayer article should be what other metal articles strive for, but they don't. I can't see Metal Head folding Slayer into the Big Four for the above reasons to be honest, as when the Metal Project members arrive with their crufty edits it means me and him would have to mop up behind them. I'm sorry if my tone seems derogatory, but it's aimed at the Metal Wikiproject generally as opposed to yourself - I don't know you as a Wikipedian, so cannot comment on your efforts. If I thought the Big Four could aspire to what the Slayer Project is but on a larger scope, I would've joined - but unless Wikipedia has more editor s like Metal Head, I don't think it could aspire to such levels. Good luck though - it's a shame I can't join really, as I love the Big Four. LuciferMorgan 07:24, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] PCC userbox

I have moved the PCC box to template space because that's where all education related boxes belong. Also, you had included a fair use college logo, which is not allowed. I substituted PCC for the image. You are encouraged to modify the box again to your liking, however, you can't include fair use images in userboxes, no matter where they are located. I have also corrected the links on Wikipedia:Userboxes/Education/United States. You should look at the other boxes there to get some ideas of what you can and cannot do with the PCC box. Thank you for helping. --NThurston 15:12, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wiki Project Comedians

Yeah, I definately would be interested in heading up that project. Let me know what information I need to fill in. --Twintone 15:09, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Save making a new section, are you still willing to make a project page and templates for this? Which I believe has now expanded to a full Comedy Wikiproject. If you would still, I would be glad to help out. Gran2 20:41, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Big Four of Thrash Metal

Please be advised that this project you created is being discussed in accord with wikipedia policy. Please feel free to go to Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WikiProject Big Four of Thrash Metal to take part in the discussion. Thank you. John Carter 19:32, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

As I stated at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WikiProject Big Four of Thrash Metal, perhaps renaming & re-focusing the WikiProject to Wikipedia:WikiProject Thrash Metal or Wikipedia:WikiProject American Thrash Metal would avoid deletion and encourage greater participation. Please take a look at the MfD page and offer you opinion. -- Scientizzle 20:28, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
The easiest way to bring about the deletion of this project would be for you to post a message at the discussion referenced above saying that you as the creator of the project wish to delete it and all of its subpages. That would qualify it for speedy deletion as per Wikipedia:Speedy deletion. John Carter 20:55, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Since you have a the pages set up already, rather than delete & start over, you could just move Wikipedia:WikiProject Big Four of Thrash Metal to Wikipedia:WikiProject Thrash Metal (and all the subpages as well). That could save a lot of effort in terms of recreating content & page design (why reinvent the wheel?)...It should be simple enough to do, but I'd be willing to help if you'd like. -- Scientizzle 23:36, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Is Wikipedia:WikiProject Thrash Metal still going ahead? I'd like to see it happen. Adamravenscroft 12:32, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] PCC

Greatings from WikiProject Oregon. We have recently been going through our members edit history to weed out some of those who have left Wikipedia. You are not one of those people, but I did see you are a student at PCC. As always we are trying to expand the content related to Oregon, and I was hoping to expand the PCC content to include articles on the individual campuses. Since you attend PCC I was wondering if you could take a stab at making an article for the campus you are at as you would know it better than those who don't attend, and you could easily get pictures. If you feel up to it, you can use the red link at the main PCC article and go from there. Thanks for being a WPOR member, and happy editing. Aboutmovies 00:49, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Elixir.ogg

Thanks for uploading Image:Elixir.ogg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 12:38, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:13 Thunder March (Unreleased Demo).ogg)

Thanks for uploading Image:13 Thunder March (Unreleased Demo).ogg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:26, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Mount St. Helens Goolge Earth.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Mount St. Helens Goolge Earth.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShadowHalo 10:10, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WPOR Collaboration of the Week

Greetings WPOR member, we are starting a weekly collaboration project where we will announce two articles that are currently stubs that we hope to work together to improve. No pressure to help, but if you would like to, just stop by one of the articles and see if you can find information to expand the article with, copy edit what is there, help with formatting, or add some images. This week’s articles are: Alis volat propriis and Fusitriton oregonensis. Aboutmovies 22:29, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Metal redesign and peer review

Hi! I've redesigned the pages at WP:HMM, and I'm hoping to get more people involved in the project. See WT:HMM for more discussion on this topic. CloudNine 11:19, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WPOR Collaboration of the Week

Greetings WikiProject Oregon employees. Well a big thanks to all those who helped improve Alis volat propriis and Fusitriton oregonensis last week. This week’s Stub improvement are: Government of Oregon which should be easy, and Miss Oregon. Again, no pressure to help with the collaboration, choose one, both, or neither. Also, feel free to opt out of the notifications at the new page dedicated to collaborative efforts at WPOR (newsletter is in R&D). Aboutmovies 18:52, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WPOR Collaboration of the Week

Hello again WikiProject Oregon team members, its time for the next Collaboration of the Week. First a shout out to Sprkee for putting together some templates for this project. Now, in honor of Labor Day weekend and the outdoor nature of the activities that often accompany the three-day weekend, this week’s item is to de-redlink as many parks from the List of Oregon State Parks. Some may even by going to one of these places, a great opportunity to take a picture or two for an article. As always, participation is not required, though it is appreciated. And if you are caught, we will disavow any knowledge of your existence. Since we don’t want to waste any effort through duplication, please make a note on the talk page of which park article you are going to start. Good day! Aboutmovies 19:37, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] September WPOR Collaboration of the Week

First off, great job to all WikiProject Oregon folks for last week’s List of Oregon State Parks work. We pounded out six new state park articles: Sarah Helmick, Bald Peak, Bob Straub, Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge, Tumalo, and Peter Skene Ogden. Plus numerous other edits to improve the existing articles. As a reward, we are introducing the COTW award {{WPOR COTW award}}, and this time it goes to User:Woodstein52 for starting three of the articles.

On to this week. We are back to the usual two Top importance Stubs: Sunstone and Oregon, My Oregon. Both are stub pluses, so it shouldn’t take much to upgrade them both. Again to opt out or suggest future collaborative efforts click here. Good day! Aboutmovies 22:37, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WPOR Collaboration: 09172007

All righty WPOR ladies and gentleman, great job last week with our state song and gemstone. I have bumped them up to Start class. I haven’t looked at the contributions, so the COTW award will be later. This week’s articles are Darlene Hooley, by special request, and another Top stub, our very own state rock, the Thunderegg. Yes, apparently we have a state rock and state gemstone. No word on whether there is a state stone too. Hooley basically needs some sources to make it to the next level. [edit] Fall WPOR COTW

Welcome to autmun and the weekly COTW news. Great job to those who helped out with last week’s articles: Darlene Hooley & Thunderegg. Both made great improvements. This week, something a little different. With fall upon us, the photo ops are going to be harder to get, so we have a photo request fulfillment drive. Take a look at the requested pictures for Oregon category or the graphics subproject for what’s needed. Then go take a picture, or search online for a free picture to upload (US gov sites are great and there are links available from the above links). If you fill a request, be sure to remove the request template from the article’s talk page. Our other item is another red link removal drive, this time on the flagship Oregon article. Like the state parks red link drive, try to coordinate on the talk page. Again to opt out or suggest future collaborative efforts click here. Aboutmovies 01:56, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The England Flag in your profile

I noticed this while I was snooping around your user page. Knowing this as a resident of England, England is not a country and is often falsely misinterpreted as being a country by the American people. It is a part of the UK so I think you need the Flag of the United Kingdom as well if not instad of. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.215.115.68 (talk) 18:11, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Flight Simulator.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Flight Simulator.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. VegitaU 16:43, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Week 1 October WP:ORE COTW

I know everyone has been waiting anxiously for this week’s COTW, so here they are: Barlow Road and Columbia River Plateau. Both are almost Start class, just some formatting and referencing, plus a little expansion and they will be there!

As to last week, it is difficult to track the items we were working on, but I know some pictures were added and at least three red links were removed from Oregon, so thank you to all those who participated. The award winner will be GoodDamon for their creation of the Oregon Forest Resources Institute article. We have now worked through all the Top class stubs and are into the High class stubs. Greetings WPOR world. Last week was great with the Barlow Road seeing lots of improvement, maybe even B class. Columbia River Plateau also saw some improvement, maybe enough to bump it to Start. On with the countdown, another two Stubs in the High category, both happen to be people: Don Schollander a multi-gold medalist; and then world-renowned bridge architect and all-around swell guy Conde McCullough. [edit] FA for WPORE COTW

Greetings boys and girls from the fine folks at The Wettest Place on Earth! A thank you to those who helped last week make some good improvements on the U of O and OSU OS articles. For this week, the next stub on the list is Fortune 1000 company Lithia Motors, Inc. way down south in Dixie, which only needs a little added to make it to Start. Greetings to all the WikiProject Oregon crew. Happy holidays to those who celebrate holidays. Thanks to those who helped out with last week’s articles Oregon Garden and Robert B. Duncan. Due to the holidays and people likely to be spending less time on Wikipedia, the new Collaboration of the Week will run for two weeks (OK actually I’ll be out of the country, but same difference). The first item will be a general Reference Improvement Drive. So find an article, source an tagged sentence or bring all the citations up to WP:CITE standards. The other item is a Tagging Drive, looking for those random articles about Oregon that do not yet have a {{WikiProject Oregon}} tag on the talk page. Happy New Year to all the Oregon WikiProject People. A big round of applause for everyone last year, we got a lot done. A thank you to everyone who helped with the last Collaboration of the Week, I saw a large number of articles in the unassessed section and our total number of articles is over 5000 (we were around 4000 in June when the assessment program finished the initial run) so I know at one person was busy tagging. This week we are back to a High importance Stub article the one and only max security prison, first prison, and only one with a death row in the state, the Oregon State Penitentiary. [edit] Oregon GA COTW

Howdy to WikiProject Oregon members, time for another edition of the Collaboration of the Week. As you may have already noticed, our flagship article Oregon is up for the third time as we make a push to get WP:GA status before going for WP:FA. Since this will take some time to get where it needs to be, this will be the COTW for more than just a week. Also, so we hopefully don’t trip over ourselves, try to coordinate on the article’s talk page. Once again, to opt out or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here.

On another note, just a general good job/pat on the back to the project for a great 2007, the first full year of the project. We had 83 DYKs about Oregon, improved one article to FA, and went from around 4 GAs to 17 GAs. Plus numerous new articles, improvements to existing, the introduction of the COTW, and the introduction of article assessment at the project. Again, great job and here’s to a new year. Wake up! Wake up to a happy day! Says Tom Peterson. Greetings to the gang at WP:ORE, its time for another round of Collaboration of the Week. Last week was a very successful endeavor with great improvement to Oregon Swallowtail and Deuce Biglow Canyon Wind Farm. OK, so there’s no “e” but it makes me laugh. The Biglow production was so successful we got our first DYK out of it. So, let’s try for a second with the tallest building in the state, the Wells Fargo Center. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Seven Devils Panorama edit.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Seven Devils Panorama edit.jpg is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Seven Devils Panorama edit.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Smith House; with most now nominated for DYK’s! So great work everybody.

This week, its back to stubs with one of the largest newspapers in the state, The Register-Guard, and a request with Oregon Coast. [edit] Elected Oregon

Hello fellow WikiProject Oregon folks and entities. Thanks to those who helped out with improving Vera Katz and History of Oregon during the last Collaboration of the Week! As you may have noticed, we have changed the banners a bit, but not our dedication to everything Oregon! This week, in honor of the political process, we have: Current Oregon Senate members & Current Oregon House members. Hopefully by November we can have an article on every current member of the Oregon Legislature. So feel free to turn a red link blue or expand an existing article. Since it is an election year, there should be plenty of newspaper stories. Plus, the state archives has this site that allows you to go back and see when they started serving and district info, plus at a minimum show they were a state legislator from a WP:RS. [edit] Juxtaposition COTW

Howdy Ho WikiProject Oregon! Time for another installment of Collaboration of the Week. The last few weeks we’ve knocked out quite a few articles of our current state legislators, and even a few former ones too. Great job to all those who helped make it happen. On a related note, we have had several DYKs from this and now have 53 DYKs so far this year (not counting multiples), less than four full months into the year. Last year we had a total of 83 DYKs for the entire year, and 7 combined for 2006 & 2005. So we are well on our way to another record year. Each time an article makes it to the main page as a DYK it will typically get an extra 1000 hits, which is usually far more than the typical 100 hits per month most minor articles receive. With that said, this week we have two requests, Portland Lumberjax and Silicon Forest. As always, to opt out, opt in, or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here. Hi Adam, just thought I'd let you know, the image you uploaded will probably not last. This is because there's a general consensus that free/copyleft images of living persons are generally attainable, and are preferred to fair use images for a bunch of reasons. I've been thinking about sending out an email to a bunch of notable Oregonians requesting photos, and outlining the steps for submitting them to Wikipedia; maybe we should just add Knight to the list? In any event, thanks for the attempt! -Pete (talk) 08:59, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
