Talk:Adult comics
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] in the future
the section on Underground comics should be expanded. Most information can be borrowed from that topics own section.
Also, sections need to be done for overseas comics, particularly those from Europre and Japan. A section for Pornographic comics will also be essential, but I know nothinga bout the subject other than to include Milo Manara's name Elijya 04:29, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
The underground comix of the 60's weren't "under the CCA." They were OUTSIDE the CCA with depictions of sex and ambiguous (to say the least) drug use. An analysis of overseas comics would also be great.
[edit] Merge?
- merge as it doesn't make much sense having a thin entry over there when there is a detailed entry here covering the same ground. I'd also recommend people think about Category:Erotic comics should that be renamed or is it OK as it is? (Emperor 02:15, 1 July 2007 (UTC))
- Merge I agree with Emperor. Should probably rename the category too. Konczewski 20:01, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- Unsure. "Adult comics" is a fuzzy concept in itself, "Erotic comics" is more clear-cut, but that article needs expanding. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * 15:26, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
- Do not merge, while the current article is short, there are different books out there specifically about erotic comics and erotic comics artists. The genre is distinct enough (and widespread enough) to warrant its own article.[1][2][3]
- I think "Erotic comics" warrants its own article, but I'm not sure about "Adult comics", since it's a vague and fuzzy idea, that is hard to describe. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * 10:02, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- I disagree. "Adult comics" is (at least in Europe) a quite clear genre, the kind of comics that developed in the early 1970s in France, in magazines like Métal Hurlant and so on (the works of Moebius, Druillet, Tardi, ...). It is a much larger group than the erotic comics (which are obviously part of it), and has been described as such in books and magazines.[4] Young adult comics is even an Amazon category[5]. While the term is very often used as an euphemism for sex comics, it is important enough for its own article. The French equivalent (BD adultes) is a typical library section[6], and here it is definitely not about erotic comics :-) Fram 12:58, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I see, but then this article needs to be rewritten. Most of the examples here are sex-related, anyway. Anyway, I still think the concept is fuzzy... 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * 14:00, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- True, both articles need a lot of work. Fram 14:42, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- I have heard about "adult comics" in Sweden, too, but I think it's a vague concept that encompasses everything in the medium that's not strictly for children. In that case, the article needs to go through how the term is used, and that it could mean different things in different contexts. 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * 12:12, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

I agree the term Adult comics encompasses more than just sex, primarily violence, adult themes, and other non-mainstream ideas that aren't typical children's fare, re: [7] [8] [9]
Erotic comics are a big part of adult comics, as shown by the many Seealsos which are purely erotica, but it is otherwise a one-sentence stub. I'd support a merge until enough sex-specific content gets added to support a separate article. Gotyear (talk) 07:44, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
