Nicolas Vouilloz (born February 8, 1976) is a former professional downhill mountain bike racer from Nice in France. He ranks as the most successful rider in the history of mountain biking, with ten World Championship gold medals at junior and senior level and five World Cup titles in twelve full-time seasons.

[edit] Junior career

From a young age, Nicolas Vouilloz participated in two-wheeled sports; his interests included BMX, road cycling, motocross, and even motorcycle trials. His interest in downhill mountain-biking was sparked by a school friend and, in December 1990, he entered his first downhill competition.

[edit] Senior career

Upon reaching the age of 18 in 1994, Vouilloz became eligible to compete on the senior professional circuit.

After leaving Sunn, Vouilloz decided to go it alone with an eponymous team, using a new bike with the brand name of V-Process. It was developed in partnership with Cycles Lapierre, a French company with a long history of producing cyclo-cross frames.
