Adria LNG is a proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal on the island of Krk, Croatia. The project was first considered in 1995 when initial explorarty work was undertaken. A feasibility study is expected to be completed by 2008. The plant will provide an important source of natural gas for the Croatian market, which relies of natural gas for 26% of its energy needs. The plant will also be an important distribution point for natural gas to the surrounding market as Croatia's demand only stands at 3 bcm per year which is significantly below the expected capcity of the plant.
There is significant interest into the project by the Croatian government who are keen to pursue a 20% interest into the project.
One potential obstacle into the project is the partners E.ON Ruhrgas other LNG terminal, at Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
[edit] Technical features
The terminal will have an initial capacity of 10 billion cubic meters (bcm) per annum, which could be increased to 15 bcm per annum. The final decision is expected at the end of 2008 and first operation in 2012.
