[edit] Pronunciation

Could someone add some pronunciation info? (I never learned German.) -- Fropuff 16:45, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Is there a "standard" Wikipedia way of indicating pronounciation, or do you just write it in phonetically at a certain point? I will add it in later when I've got the answer to this. For the record, the surname is pronounced first syllable her (rhyming with sir), second syllable vits (rhyming with pits) Smeddlesboy 16:09, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
The standard way is using the IPA. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (pronunciation) for details. Thanks for the info. -- Fropuff 17:48, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. It looks a little complicated for me though, so I have tagged the page instead for someone else who understands better to add the tags! Smeddlesboy 17:56, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
done! to your mathematical satisfactions I hope!! --Slp1 02:29, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't know all the details of IPA, but it looks to me, as if this pronounciation would match only an (american-)english way of reading the name. I will try to describe the (original) german pronounciation:

Adolf - The `A' like in `car', without the `r'. The `dolf' like in `dolphin'

Hurwitz - `Hur' not like `sir' but rather `tour' (still not the same, but already a better match.), `witz' really rhyming with pits.

I hope i helped a bit, perhaps someone can fix this, on the page. - Robert
