Need for protection
Does this page need to be protected? I hear that soft security works well these days... Martin (Dated April 14, 2003)
Anthere's request for unprotection
Could someone unprotected this page for 10 mn. I am feeling lazy with links and would like to edit it, to copy it to fr. Thanks User:anthere (Dated April 30, 2003)
- Done. You have ten minutes :-) -- JeLuF 21:04 Apr 30, 2003 (UTC)
done; Thanx alot User:anthere (Dated April 30, 2003)
- Why does this page need to be protected anyway? Martin 23:14 Apr 30, 2003 (UTC)
-
- that is a mystery. Answer will be "to avoid it being vandalized". In case nobody would notice it...I could hardly argue against using precautionary principle. humpf.

- There is no reason to have this page protected; I've unlocked it. --Brion 01:29 May 1, 2003 (UTC)

Unprotected again
I just unprotected this page (again!) for the same reasons as Brion did above. I do wish people would RTFM sometimes... *grr* Martin 18:14 May 14, 2003 (UTC)
Protecting the page
I see no reason why this whole page has to be protected. Are there any objections to splitting off the list of admins so that can be protected without affecting the rest of the page? Angela. 19:20, Jan 22, 2004 (UTC)
- Then you'd have two vandal targets instead of one. ;) - Hephaestos 19:23, 22 Jan 2004 (UTC)

- I don't see why any regular user would want to edit it in the first place. Ilyanep 23:07, 25 Jan 2004 (UTC)

I mind it being protected. See talk page history (moved to Wikipedia talk:Administrators/protection of this page for your convenience). Regular users have made productive edits to this page in the past, and I hope they will continue to do so. We have over 200,000 "vandal targets", and like wikipedia:this page is protected, a few lightning rods do no harm. Martin 18:03, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Why not create a MediaWiki page with the list on it and protect that while leaving this page unprotected? --mav 10:55, 9 Feb 2004 (UTC)

- I think the better question is "why?". It's completely not the end of the world if someone mis-edits the list: it's not like they get adminship by saying they are, and adminship is meant to be a technical thing, not a power thing. Reverted. Martin 23:34, 9 Feb 2004 (UTC)
