Instructions

This page is for any user to report apparent violations of the three-revert rule in current or recent editing disputes. Please feel free to leave a message or report a violation. Do not submit reports of anything other than edit warring here.

If you find yourself in a revert war, you should ensure that the "other side" is aware of the three-revert rule, especially if they are new, by leaving a warning about the rule on their talk page, for example using the template {{subst:uw-3rr|Article}}. Administrators are unlikely to block a user who has never been warned. If you report a 3RR violation here it is good form to inform the person you are reporting of this on their talk page and provide a link to this page: [[WP:AN/3RR]]. Consider the arguments of the "other side": perhaps you can provide an edit that satisfies both sides. Consider also trying Wikipedia:Dispute resolution without asking that your "opponent" be blocked for 3RR violation.

To report a violation:

Make a copy of the example template at the bottom of the article, append that copy to the bottom of the violations section, and fill out that copy. Please do not edit the original.
Remember to sign and date all contributions, using the Wikipedia special form "~~~~", which translates into a signature and a time stamp automatically. The page archivers really need the time information.

Administrators: Once you have dealt with a report please make a note so that other administrators don't waste time responding to it. You can use {{AN3}} to assist in doing so.

3RR rule

Main article: Wikipedia:Three-revert rule

The 3RR applies to reverts after the third within a 24-hour period (not calendar day); it does not include self-reverts, reverts to deal with simple vandalism, or removal of unsourced or poorly sourced negative material about living people. Other exceptions are described at WP:3RR. Administrators will look over and discuss whether a user has truly violated the three-revert rule, and take appropriate blocking action if necessary. A user who has not violated the 3RR may still be blocked; administrator discretion is the most decisive factor.

An editor must not perform more than three reverts, in whole or in part, on a single page within a 24-hour period. A revert means undoing the actions of another editor, whether involving the same or different material each time.

Editors who violate the three-revert rule may be blocked from editing for up to 24 hours, or longer in the case of a repeated or aggravated violation. Many administrators use escalating block lengths for users with prior violations, and tend to consider other factors, like edit warring on multiple pages or incivility, when assigning a block.

What the three-revert rule does not cover

Please report simple vandalism to WP:AIV. Likewise, disputes over page content or complaints about abusive editors should be taken to the respective dispute resolution procedure.
