Adliya

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Adliya (Arabic: عدلية) is the bohemian quarter of Manama, the capital city of Bahrain. Adliya is a busy town area with many of the old traditional houses being turned into art galleries, cafes and chic restaurants.

Formerly, it was known as Zolmabad (ظلم آباد), which means "Injustice" town in Persian. The current name is totally the opposite, for Adliya derives from the Arabic word Adl (عدل) that means Justice, forming the new name which means "Justice" site. The former name s still in use by some elderly.

The Al Riwaq Gallery is one of Bahrain's best private galleries and the two story converted townhouse has a bookshop on the first floor.
