copyvio

A lot of the text at the Khwaja Abdul Ghani article has been copy-pasted from Banglapedia. Please rewrite the text, and cite the source, otherwise, the article may be removed. Thank you. --Ragib 17:34, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I know. I have used Banglapedia to begin the article. I intend to rework the copy to make it more consolidated, include the information from the offcial web page of the nawab family, and make use of a couple of Daily Star articles. I also intend to use stuff from Hakim Habibur Rahman's book, and a few other sources. But, all that will require a couple of days time. Till then I am fine quoting Banglapedia as a source. Thanks. - Aditya Kabir 17:53, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

By the way, I was hoping for an answer to my proposal on your talk page. Will you, please, check it out? - Aditya Kabir 17:53, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

And, please, do check the Dhaka Nawab Family artcile as well. It too uses Banglapedia as a skeleton. If possible, please, take look at Shahbag, Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh and Gulshan, Dhaka as well. - Aditya Kabir 18:01, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your nice Barnstar award

You gave me "The Original Barnstar" award on my user talk page, and I would like to thank you for that. On that same page I replied your question. Please check it out. By the way, I know you by your name. It is nice to talk to you. Mostly I spent my time on Bishnupriya Manipuri Wikipedia.Usingha 01:36, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Dear Aditya, I created 6 more following thanas for dhaka city. Acoording to your suggestion, I am creating a map for the Dhaka city, and before I upload, I will show to you. Please guide me, what we want to put for Info Box Template for Dhaka City. I am on wiki break for few months. If I would not finish, I will do after my break or any ones addition or correction will be very welcome.

Thanks again.Usingha 22:05, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Towns and cities - simplifying

I agree with your proposal (sent to several people recently). In New Zealand a population of 1000 would see a place described as a township rather than a town, but the same population in USA could be a "City". Put something on the talk pages of those lists if you haven't already. Robin Patterson 12:10, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Urdu script needed

Hakim Habibur Rahman needs urdu script for the name of the subject (Bangla script has already been added). Can you help? Aditya Kabir 09:00, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I can not write Urdu. However, you may seek help of Ragib and IFaqueer. I am pasting your message on their talk pages. Thanks for the message. --Bhadani 12:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

I have copied and pasted above from my talk page. I hope that you are doing fine. --Bhadani 12:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Mazharul Islam

Hi, sorry for not getting back to you on this earlier, but I'm not quite sure how you would want the table to look. Another solution that seems to be used in some architect articles is to use list format for works, examples: Alvar Aalto#Works, Frank Gehry#Works and Santiago Calatrava#Notable works. --KFP (talk | contribs) 17:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Aditya,

Will you be around on WP this weekend? I am busy right now, but will leave more questions on the Shahbag talk page for you later. If you could answer them, it would be great. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 18:13, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Armenian community of Dhaka

The way I see it is this: is anyone likely to click on those links (probably not), and would they learn anything useful if they did (almost certainly not)? Anyone who's reading about a bit of Armenian history is not likely to care that in 1698, for example, "Whigs sponsor Captain Kidd of New York as a privateer against French shipping". The articles for any specific year are a total ragbag of unrelated information. There might be a case for highlighting key dates in bold to emphasise them, or for linking to a specific relevant article such as e.g. 1698 in Armenian history but not for linking them as they stand. Colonies Chris 17:32, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

There's a discussion of this in the Manual of Style at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)#Partial dates, and some more at Wikipedia:Only make links that are relevant to the context#Dates. Opinions differ on this practice and there's no clear policy, but as the second article says, the majority of editors (though with some strong dissenters) feel as I do that linking bare years is valueless and visually distracting. Because the way of marking up dates to respond to readers' formatting preferences is also the way of linking dates, and isn't particularly intuitive, a lot of confusion has developed about how and when to mark up/link dates. But to my mind the simple question that cuts through it all is 'will this link be useful to the reader?'Colonies Chris 09:35, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

About VNS article

Thanks for removing that weird part from Viqarunnisa Noon School article. I thought to remove that segment completely last night and found it done in the morning :-) ... anyway, I think that article is prepared by multiple hand and some one tried to up its reputation while some one tried to get it down. However, We (Nahid and me) are now taking care of this article and trying to prepare it properly maintaining all the wiki policies. I'll also try to collect some appropriate photographs and upload it accordingly. Regards, -- Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 06:47, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Query on Sholakia at DYK

Thanks for expanding Sholakia. However, there still seems a confusion over the numbers attending. Please see my comment at Template_talk:Did_you_know#Articles_created_on_August_21, as the festival definitely seems notable and it would be good to get this featured on DYK. Regards, Espresso Addict 08:29, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I meant to let you know directly that my concerns had been answered, but got distracted. (By the way, suggested items are never deleted from the page unless they're added to the template page; insuperable objections are expressed by striking out the entry.) Thanks for your rapid edits. Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury

I found those information in an edition of Chutir Dine (Saturday's weekend magazine of Prothom Alo). Actually I did not know about which template to use for a newspaper's weekend magazine. Anyway, don't worry, I'll find that copy and cite it properly in no time :) Regards Tarif from Bangladesh 16:30, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

by the way, a rough citation about that copy could be found in reference 2 of the article. If you are working from computer you can fix them already(that is for all the other informations that I've added. Or you can wait for me to go to cyber cafe ;)

Have a nice day. --Tarif from Bangladesh 16:48, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Grameen... articles

Hi Aditya, Are you able to add any secondary/tertiary sources to these articles. They currently read like adverts but I didn't want to tag them as such. Sources other than the companies' websites will be required to establish notability. Best to get this argument out the way before spending too much time only for someone to AfD it later. I have seen better sourced articles get deleted at AfD. Thanks. → AA (talk) — 10:25, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia is an anarchy. You can't order people to expand sth. If you want work done, then do it yourself. First step is always improving citations. Wandalstouring 11:04, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Bangladesh Liberation War

You asked about this article. Yes I do have some stuff. I have an old article I wrote about 10 years ago on it. Like the one I wrote on the J&K war, but not Wikified. (probably not quite as good), I've also done some stuff on the 1962 war. I will email you Mike Young 20:44, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

If you want somebody else to review the Bangladesh Liberation War I recommend you askUser:toddy1 he is an excellent military historian. Mike Young 05:19, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Looking at the work I have done, the write-up is only a couple of paragraphs & will not add anything to the existing article... But I have got an excellent map, with the deployments of all the West Pak and Indian Military units in, at Brigade/Division level. For copyright reasons I need a blank background Map of Bangladesh (East Pakistan), that I can annotate. Can you suggest one? (The one used as background for the existing map (which I have now moved to phase 4) would be fine, and would add consistency to the article). I can make the map for you. (May take about 3 weeks....) Mike Young 05:19, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Still looking for time to do those maps fpor you! I am afraid that real life has to take priority for the moment, but I should be able to do something about mid October. Mike Young 21:31, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Toddy1's review of the Bangladesh Liberation War

Did you see the excellent review by User:toddy1 on the talk page of the Bangladesh Liberation War article? If you like what he's done, and as he did it specifically at your request, and as I've already given him one, perhaps you could consider if it's good enough for you to give him an award. Books to read

Indian Army POV A good starting point is Major K.C. Praval's Indian Army after Independence. The first edition for this was published in 1987. The paperback edition was published in 1993. This book can be bought on Amazon.

Indian Navy POV A good starting point is Vice Admiral GM Hiranandhini's Transition to triumph - Indian Navy 1965-75 There is an internet copy of this book on: Transition to triumph - Indian Navy 1965-75 Chapter 8 contains statistics on Mukti Bahini frogmen operations.

Pak Military POV Try Lt Gen Gul Hassan Khan's Memoirs of Lt Gen Gul Hassan Khan, pub 1993. This can also be bought on Amazon.

There is a book called Fallacies & realities: An analysis of Lt. Gen. Gul Hassan's "Memoirs", by Aboobaker Osman Mitha. I have not read Mitha's book - it is hard to get hold of.

There are a huge number of books published on the war, but these three provide a good starting point.--Toddy1 15:24, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Full restructure of Bangladesh Liberation War

As per your request, I have done a full restructure of the article. Hope this improves it. Mike Young 20:46, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

You asked if I was cutting down the military side of thing in the article. No way! The thing is that the article did not contain very much military info before hand. It's just that only when you restructure the article it becomes obvious. Mike Young 15:09, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Haor

I don't think it is possible to create a gallery in Wikipedia Commons, at least I am unaware of it. However, I have provided a link to Haor for all the related photographs. I think that would be helpful for those who want to use any of those photographs in other languages. Regards - P.K.Niyogi 13:08, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for creating the gallery in the Commons. I have filled in the pictures with captions, as they are on the Wikipedia page. Please don't remove the pictures from the Wikipedia page as that would totally spoil the article. A link does not fulfill all the requirements. What is the probelm if pictures are there at both the places? Regards - P.K.Niyogi 00:02, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
I did not notice your "wait" tag in Haor and made a small edit, because I am working on related topics. Sorry for the disruption. - P.K.Niyogi 11:35, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Waterbodies

I don't seem to have anything related to the Ecologically Critical Areas in Bangladesh. You may have a look at this [1] - it may not be of any direct help. During my visit to Bangaldesh I searched for books on rivers but could not locate any. Mine was a flying visit and I was trying to do too many things within a limited period. I am happy that I have been able to focus you on the water bodies. That is a Bangladesh speciality but I don't think it is properly highlighted. Regards - P.K.Niyogi 03:32, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Delinking

Thanks for the message. I have delinked only where multiple identical links exist in the same short article, so the second or further links are unnecessary. Where the link appears in an infobox or as a "See also" I have left it as a multiple. I based this on the Manual of Style re internal links here.

I should also add that I have been reading the articles either as I go, or prior to doing anything within any particular subcategory.

Of course, it is possible for any two people to reasonably disagree about the utility of multiple links where the article is more than one or two lines. I take it from your message that you disagree with at least some of the link removals. A quick check of your contributions shows you have much more experience with the Bangladesh articles than me so I am happy to a) stop doing it and b) restore them to the articles that are more than a few lines long. As most of the cleanups don't involve delinking this will not be a lengthy process.

Let me know if this is satisfactory. Euryalus (talk) 11:36, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind response. Looking back over the specific Dhaka Nawab articles it would have been preferable for me not to have delinked the second occurrence of the father/predecessor name in the infobox at the least. Also, while East Pakistan, Bengal and Bangladesh were appropriately delinked when appearing for the second time in short articles, there are other terms less well-known to many readers (eg sannyasi) that could reasonably remain as multiple wikilinks. I will take additional care to be cautious with delinking in the future.
I am more than happy to suggest some minor improvements to the two other articles you mention. Sitakunda Upazila is an excellent template for other Bangladesh location articles. I will work on this today or tomorrow to address the peer review points and post it here for yours and other's comments. I don't completely understand the geography, and will need to get your opinion on this and some other points to make sure the article remains accurate.
As you point out, the Jayne Mansfield article simply needs a copyedit and a reorganisation including some reference formatting. Will have a go at this today or tomorrow also. As always, let me know what you think along the way. Euryalus (talk) 19:31, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Merger proposal - reply

Hi Aditya, I agree with merging Chutir Dine with Prothom Alo but not Mahfuz Anam with The Daily Star (Bangladesh). Mahfuz Anam is the current Chairperson for Asia News Network, he is a media expert for UNESCO and runs an NGO (Freedom Foundation). He is definitely a notable personality on his own right and deserves a stand alone article. I agree the current article is not rich enough, but there is definitely a scope to improve it to a complete article. Arman (Talk) 01:34, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Re: Kuakata

Well, I guess I was depending on common knowledge rather than references :(. But anyway, Banglapedia says that: The most important attraction of the beach is that one can see both sunrise and sunset from some of its locations[2]. BTW, it was great talking to you. You'd be surprised how I bumped into a Bengali Wikipedian in the heart of Silicon valley .... Cox's Bazar

I thought my last post on Talk:Cox's Bazar#Merger gave an amicable point. Right now, without enough materials, starting 5 articles don't make sense to me. When you say the logical format is to merge everything into Cox's Bazar District, the "logic" is not very clear to me either. I have requested Ragib bhai to give an opinion. I'd be glad to go by whatever he says - if he says to merge everything into Cox's Bazar District then that's what I'll support, too. Let's try to accept his opinion as the final. Bangladesh Rehabilation Centre for Trauma Victims

Grameen Bank

See [3]. Blnguyen removed many references because they came directly from Grameen Bank. Again, he did this because the site is considered a primary source. Since half the article was now unsourced, he decided to delist the article from GA status. Nishkid64 (talk) 17:16, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Go ahead. I myself had issues with WP:RS on my first FA, but after time, the rules became second nature to me. As far as I know, the articles I brought to FA/GA status meet Wikipedia's referencing policies (WP:RS, WP:V and WP:PSTS). Regards, Nishkid64 (talk) 05:53, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
I'll be glad to "watch over you" on Banglapedia. I could probably re-reference Grameen Bank (and Muhammad Yunus, while I'm at it) and re-submit it to GA. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me. I'm glad that I can be of assistance. Nishkid64 (talk) 06:04, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
