[edit] Vandal activities in Bangladesh National University
Hello,
I have noticed that some vandals have corrupted the Infobox of the article Bangladesh National University. As I do not know the correct informations would you like to restore the correct informations.→Farhan nasim 08:31, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] A proposal
I have a proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Bangladesh/Outreach. Please take a look and share your view. Arman (Talk) 01:55, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Riya Sen
I suggest you re-apply for GA status, improvements have been made soundly. Universal Hero (talk) 13:50, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Bangladesh Public Service Commission
I think this article is important. So please give your attention. I've just collected some information and created this. But if you do some cleanup and give some directions then it will be easier for me to do further improvement. Thank you. Tanvir che (talk) 09:25, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Re: Riya Sen
Hi there! Yes, I've been watching it since I lay my eyes upon it during its last GAN. I will share my comments within the next 6 hours. However, what shocked me is that its talk page says that the article is listed as a part of the Pornography portal. Did you notice that?! :O Mspraveen (talk) 11:19, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- Upon my search, this action was performed by User:Arundhati lejeune. I don't quite see sense in doing so. Thoughts? Mspraveen (talk) 11:27, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- I hope you didn't mind me relocating few paragraphs here and there. I did so in order to see some consistency in the sections. Furthermore, I did some copy-editing to my knowledge. But, I know there are far too many editors out there who are better than me in this. I will be seeing this once again to make improvements, particularly in the last section that I haven't seen much as yet. Btw, where are you from? Mspraveen (talk) 05:05, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- Read this. Mspraveen (talk) 16:22, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- Sad, but if this were to succeed in its further nominations, say A-class/FA, his arguments are perfect. I saw it with Mr. and Mrs. Iyer FAC. Hence free images are in hot demand! Try and see if you can find someone to release a good modeling image of hers under GFDL. Mspraveen (talk) 16:59, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

I'll have a read later. Riya Sen is very hot huh? I can see you are a hot blooded male! lol ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:42, 29 March 2008 (UTC) Yes I find her very attractive too. I've had a quick glance and off hand it looks like it needs a good deal of work to become a GA. Some of the more controversial statements will need referencing in places, and some of the wording is clumsy in places and doesn't flow -hence it needs a thorough copy edit. It also looks like in places there are still a few peacock words and POV issues which need to be addressed. I'll read more into it later ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:52, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Banglapedia
(Copied from my talk page:) Hi. I am sympathetic to your plight. And I did put in some time to try to work on the article myself, as you can see here. So it's not as though I didn't try to help! By comparison, the other changes that have been made recently have been much less substantive. But going back to look at it, I felt that there was still rather a lot to be done. Of course, do feel free to take it to Good Article reassessment if you feel I was wrong. Good luck! --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 11:43, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- (Copied from my talk page:) Aditya, I'm not sure it's a simple question of misunderstanding. And I doubt that arguing pro and con on the talk page will help things much. I think I was clear as to the multiple issues as I saw them. I do hope they help you further revise the article. If you really do think that my review was poor, then again I suggest that you take it to Good Article reassessment. --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 11:56, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Finally we made it! List of universities in Bangladesh is now a Featured List. :-). -- Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 15:12, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. It was really nice working with you on this list and would like to do the same on Bengali literature in future. I am slightly off from Wikipedia, busy with getting British visa and also my admission in London. But, will be back very soon with doubled energy. -- Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 12:20, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] My edit to Thong (clothing)
Hi, I was actually going to do something with that list, and indeed I have added what i consider to be the notable bits in a section on controversy, and have nominated "Thongs in the news" for deletion as it is, as you say, an utter waste of space. -mattbuck (Talk) 21:23, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] About red-links
I have strong doubt about Southern University, Bangladesh. If it is located in CTG, we have to remove it from Dhaka. IIUC also has a Dhaka Campus but that does not mean a new university. Similarly IUB has a campus in CTG and AUST has a campus in Rajshahi but those are not university rather just a campus. I observed that an anonymous user is trying again and again to enter this name in CTG section of the list. Well, I will have a look at those issues tomorrow and let you know in detail. Regards, -- Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 22:49, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- I have removed it's entry from Dhaka division as per discussion. Cheers. -- Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 10:34, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Riya Sen
No problem. Shahid • Talk2me 15:54, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
- Needs much copyediting, as I see now in other sections. I'll make some improvements and then comment. Shahid • Talk2me 15:51, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
I've looked over it its improved a lot since I last looked and it; I've made some changes including a new image. I think it needs a good bit of copy editing to be honest. Some of the phrases and sentences are quite awkward and will need complete altering. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:14, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
"Riya Sen, since joining Bollywood, has become a representative of the aspirations of younger people of India by way of her clothing style, kissing scenes and outgoing manners" -this is far too generalized and POV however much of a model she is. All the stuff on the glitzy parties and bikinis. Much of that reads like blog and will have to be seriously cut and reworded ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:23, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi there. Good to hear from you. I'm doing fine. Thank you. I'm not quite sure about any further failures for the article. I'll be around, so in case you need any assistance while it is being reviewed, you know whom to ping. Btw, I didn't understand your allusion to recession - as in the Bangla's economy? Cheers! [edit] Banglapedia
I will take a look at the article within the next few days. Nishkid64 (Make articles, not love) 15:41, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- "Make articles, not love" is a reference to the infamous South Park episode entitled "Make Love, Not Warcraft". Your suggestion sounds pretty good...I might change it to that. And the AN thing is news to me. I was surprised to see it was Veinor of all people. I even nommed him for adminship! Thanks for the heads-up on Banglapedia; I'll leave comments on the talk page soon. I'm a bit busy with schoolwork, so I might not get to it until the weekend. Nishkid64 (Make articles, not love) 16:08, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] List of Kolkata facts
I added to the introduction that it ranked 13th in the world (based on 2007 estimates by Demographia) and then you added a rankings section that states it is 12th in the world. I realize that figures are different depending on whether you're looking at estimates, projections, census data, etc. but we should probably keep it consistent lest the article contradict itself. It would probably be a good idea to add a note saying what the data is based up (e.g., 2007 estimates, 2000 census data). I have no preference, but I just thought I should point that out if you want to make that call. Thanks. --ErgoSum88 (talk) 14:37, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bangladesh references
Hi Aditya, why aren't you just adding the references to the article? Arman (Talk) 07:06, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Since you did such a good job in finding references for "common sense" items on Bangladesh article, could I please request you to also take a look at the article on Dhaka, especially the last 3 sections: transportation, culture and sports. Arman (Talk) 02:49, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
-
-
- The only problem is I'm not getting enough time either :( I'll add these when I get more time, of course. I think I have removed all "citation needed" tags from 2 out of 3 sections already. By the way, I have a bit doubt about reliability of a few of the sources, e.g. the "How to travel in Dhaka" post on BBC. Although hosted by BBC, it seemed like a wiki/blog-type thing. But any way, you provided enough references from other solid sources, which made that specific source less than necessary. Arman (Talk) 01:51, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sex symbol
Avoid the phrase if your only sources are random articles from the cinema section of regional papers, please. The phrase means something specific with sociological connotations, and in other film articles is placed only with care. Remember that some Indian papers tend to use phrases without that much care; for example, I can google pretty much every major female Bollywood star and discover dozens of references calling them a sex symbol. That basically renders it meaningless and unencyclopaedic based on that quality ref.

[edit] Thong (clothing)
Hi there. In your recent edit to Thong (clothing) [1], you supplied an edit summary of: "we can't have refs before the copy, wikipedia doesn't work that way." I am rather confused as to what you meant by that. Could you please explain in greater detail? Thanks Seidenstud (talk) 09:11, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Muhammad Hamidullah Khan
My dear brother Aditya, curently I have 2 missions, first is to fix the citation of Kazi Nazrul Islam, the 2nd is to make a list of Bir Protik. In the meantime I have completed the list of Bir Shrestho, Bir Uttom and Bir Bikrom, and Bir Protik is left. Yes brtother, I will find some of Muhammad Hamidullah Khan. I like all of you, carry on. [edit] Kazi Nazrul Islam
Hi Aditya Kabir - as you are a key contributor to this article, I would like to like to inform you of the changes I've made. Please don't take offense at the removal of data. My reasoning is this - speaking in context of the overall article, why risk removal of FA status. Its a subject on which there doesn't seem to be as many sources available. As a solution, I don't see why we can't just remove the non-essential sentences/facts without due citations - none of them seem critical or vital to the article. It won't diminish, as it doesn't seem people here can find any better literature. And is it worth risking the status of the overall article over those non-essential sentences? I don't think so. To be sure, I've left those alone which I felt were of some importance. Regards, Vishnava talk 12:49, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RfA for Bjaco18
As regards WP:Requests for adminship/Bjaco18. You're correct, I should not have included the age issue in my argument. There is maturity issue, IMO, with this user but I was wrong to stereotype this for all users in close age groups. :(. Cheers, Nk.sheridan Talk 23:58, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] two questions
Isn't it standard procedure to put Template:Delrev on the deleted/deletable page as described by WP:DRV instructions? I found the edit summary a bit derogatory. Are image discussions and actions supposed to be inherently rude? Aditya(talk • contribs) 01:24, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- {{delrev}} is usually used only for pages which have a keep decision appealed or which are restored during a DRV so that people can see the previous content. Image description pages without an actual image to correspond to them are deleted as a general standard. As for the description, it's taken directly from the deletion dropdown. Stifle (talk) 09:06, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Hey thank you!!
Thank you very much for this nice gesture! Much appreciated! I hope to see you doing the same with the Riya Sen article. :) Thanks again, Shahid • Talk2me 15:08, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Oh and just imagine the Bachchan-saab article getting featured. It's just a dream! I'm more than willing to make this one come true, but for that we'll have to work much harder, and we need sources mainly from books, not only net sources. Shahid • Talk2me 15:12, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
I disagree with you completely that only two editors contributed to that FA. Many editors John Carter, Sandy Georgia, Bollywood Dreamz, myself included and several others put hours of thought and work into that article and its various discussions and what we see today is a result of a combined effort. Shahid undoubtedly deserves the most credit who by edits has contributed mmore than 10 times anybody else towards it. 1600 edits to one article is incredible. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 15:14, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
LOL thanks. But this article has meant a great deal to a number of us, John Carter included, since at least October last year. We have been through the whole ordeal together and it seemed there was more like 5 of us who have tried to help Shahid make it an FA. The amount of time and effort Shahid alone has put into one article is astounding. The most important thing is that it passed thank the lord!!!, over months that article has had a huge amount of editing and thought gone into it by all involved, but particularly Shahid and Dwaiypanc who did great thought and work in sorting POV/reference issues it had over the last few months.. The time and effort gone into it speaks for itself. Hey how are you doing with the Riya Sen article? I promised I;d help but I have been very busy trying to get the bot sorted.
Yes if there is one article which should be made an FA it is Amitabh Bachchan. SOmething tells me though somebody would need to get hold of his biography book if this is to be achieved. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:05, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes it is very expensive though. But we should focus on getting some of these core Indian cinema articles to GA first. To have a string of GAs on Amitabh, SRK, Rekha etc would be the most important thing ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:17, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Aditya, I would like to thank you for your kind gesture but I honestly feel that I have done nothing to help Preity Zinta's article reach a FA status. Many other editors such as John Carter, Sandy Georgia, Blofeld of SPECTRE, and most importantly Dwaiypanc & Shahid have done a lot more to help the article reach the stage it is today. However, I would once again like to thank you for the barnstar. :) Regards -- --Bollywood Dreamz Talk 16:31, 27 May 2008
Well I beg to differ, it is much deserved for you too. Who got us all those lovely images huh?? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:15, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hi! Yeah, that half barnstar should have been like a barnstar shared in 4,5 or 6 pieces, like a pizza, with the largest piece going obviously to Shahid :) Anyway, Bachchan was my wish too for a long time. But, never could work on the article. Let's see...--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:18, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pather Panchali scenes
Hi! Started working on describing some notable scenes of the film. Please have a look at this sandbox. Two options are there. One, describing several scenes in multiple subsections (ala the themes section of Tenebrae (film)). Otherwise, a single section of "scenes" (in which case it will be much larger, even after cutting and copyediting). Please help. If we can reach a respectable look, the section can be included in the article. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 13:54, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Thank you
Thank you for the barnstar regarding Zinta, even if I didn't do much about the article myself. I too regret that I haven't met such a clearly generous editor as you before. Most of my actual efforts seem to be involved in peer review and occasionally copyediting. If at any time you ever think I would be useful for either, please let me know and I'll do whatever I can. Thanks again. John Carter (talk) 16:11, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Bikini/Borat
Hi, you edited out my Borat/mankini/YouTube link today, which is fine – I do see your point. However, stale though the joke may be, I saw (again) 2 stag do's using mankinis this very weekend in the UK. It's still very popular, so I think it's worth noting (even minorly) as a cultural transfer phenomenon. I'd say so, anyway. Yeah? I tried looking for the subsection you mentioned ("(cur) (last) 14:58, 2 June 2008 Aditya Kabir (Talk | contribs) (35,705 bytes) (that borat joke is getting stale, you may put it in the movies sub-section under the popular culture section") but can't find any movies sub-section. Let me know what I can do, if anything. Sorry, I'm a virgin at these things, so I don't really know how this works. Thanks for your help, Kieron.

[edit] FAR of Kazi Nazrul Islam
Hi - you are a major contributor to this article, I request you to take a look at the debate at Wikipedia:Featured article review/Kazi Nazrul Islam that Banglapedia is an inherently biased source; they also object to books published by the Nazrul Institute.
