Adhir Sharma :Having roots in Morsandi village in Motipur Block of Muzaffarpur district of Bihar ,he was born and educated mainly in Ranchi(Jharkhand).Belonging to 1987 RR batch of the IPS ,he is from the West Bengal Cadre and has served both West Bengal and Calcutta Police .He also served as the Provincial Commander of UN Police set up in Mozambique (Africa) in 1994 during his deputation to the United Nations Operations in Mozambique (ONUMOZ) and was awarded UN Peace Medal .During his tenure as Superintendent of Police in Purulia (Apr 1998 to mid-May, 2000);a Calcutta based CBI court convicted the detained accused persons in the infamous Purulia Arms Drop case of December,1995.He kept the Anand Margis,Jharkhand activists and Maoist outfits besides illegal coal mining and smuggling syndicates under tight leash besides providing a neutral and transparent Police Administration in the highly polarised political environment of West Bengal.Therafter he commanded a Battalion of the Indo Tibetan Border Police Force in Ladkah along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) for more than a year-only the second IPS officer to do so in that region.After doing a staff stint in Chandigarh,he commanded the Operational Sector of CRPF in Tripura and Mizoram having a deployment of 15 Bns for more than one and half year--turning it around from fighting the tribal insurgents in a defensive mould to an aggresive hunting mode.Subsequently,he headed the CRPF administrative Range of Chandigarh for more than 2 years ,supervising the raising of two CRPF Bns and extensively touring the deployed Bns of the Range in the militant and terrorist affected regions of the States of Jammu & Kashmir,Chattisgarh,Tripura and eastern Uttar Pradesh .He has so far been awarded two Police (Special Duty) Medals and Police Medal for Meritorious Service.After returning back to his parent cadre,he is presently posted as the Special Inspector General of Police in the Enforcement Branch of West Bengal Police.
