A genre of content designed to provide advertising, information and entertainment in an integrated fashion. This is often realized by means of digital signage and forms of Internet advertising.

[edit] Significance

The availability of low-cost out-of-home display technology enables the playback of dynamic audio/video content as a way of outdoor entertainment. This trend is expected to continue to influence our social lives as the latest display technology and Internet information delivery systems converge.

[edit] Origin

The word "adfotainment" and "adfotain" first appeared in a press release[1] of IAdea Corporation[2] in 2006 and later in a growing number of digital signage companies including Ryarc[3] and a number of blogs related to the industry.
