  • May 2005: Adelaide United are eliminated from the World Club Cup Qualification series in the semi finals by the Central Coast Mariners FC 4-0, in Gosford.
  • July 2005: Adelaide United finish third in Group A of the Pre-Season Cup tournament. United are in the same group as Melbourne Victory, Perth Glory and Newcastle United Jets.
  • July 2005: Aurelio Vidmar announces his retirement from the game.
  • September 2005: Former NSL player-of-the-year winner Fernando Rech becomes Adelaide's final signing.
  • January 2006: After completing their seventh straight victory away to Perth Glory, Adelaide is assured as finishing top after Sydney FC's draw with Central Coast Mariners FC in Round 18.
  • February 2006: Adelaide United bow out of the inaugural A-League finals series with a 1-0 loss to the Central Coast Mariners in the Preliminary Final.
