Adenomere
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Adenomere is the functional unit in salivary glands. Adenomeres are secretory subunits of lobules. They consist of all the secretory cells that release their products into a single intralobular duct.
An adenomere is composed of : a)Intercalated ducts : transport saliva to larger ducts. b)Striated ducts: contain a lot of mitochondria responsible for electrolyte and water transport during secreation. Simple, low columnar epithelium line these ducts. c)Glandular cells: synthesize glycoproteins.
