Aden University

Aden University is considered the first university in the then, PDRY and the Republic of Yemen. Its nucleus college was established in 1970 as the Higher College of Education, Khor Maksar. The first bach of graduates of BA&Ed and BSc&Ed was in October 1974. In 1972 the second faculty was established and named Nasser's College for Agricultural Sciences, Lahej. In 1974 the College of Commerce and Adminstration, Madinat Al-Sha'ab was established. Other fuculties were established in Mukalla and Aden including the College of Medicine (Khor Maksar 1975) and the College of Technology (Al-Ma'alla, 1978). The Republican Decree of affiliating all these colleges as fuculties under one body was made in 1975 where all these academic institutions became known as the University of Aden. Some of the regional faculties and colleges became independent institutions like Hadhramawt University, Mukalla. Now Aden University has 17 faculties.
